Martial Law in South Korea Update: Martial law has just been lifted.

South Korean president declares emergency martial law, accusing opposition of anti-state activities.

 

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol announced an "emergency martial law" on Tuesday accusing the country's opposition of ruling the parliament, sympathizing with North Korea and paralyzing the government with anti-state actions.

Yoon declared the step as critical for defending the country's constitutional order.

"To safeguard a liberal South Korea from the threats posed by North Korea's communist forces and to eliminate anti-state elements... I hereby declare emergency martial law," Yoon said in a televised address.

South Korea's gender imbalance is so extreme culturally it's reverberations were bound to break the system at some point, although we've reached that point sooner than I thought.

In other news, I'm interested on how America will handle this situation (unless this is another classic self coup allowed by the United States as they have always done). 

 

America's support of his declaration will be key to determine if the military will side with him or not.

the real problem isn't capitalism or communism, it's human greed and selfishness. Capitalism often leads to exploitation in the name of profit, while communism almost always turns into authoritarianism under the guise of "equality".

 

Any system fails when power and self-interest take over, and that's just human nature

Y'know its bad when even MAGAts/conservatives on X were against the declaration of martial law  

 

I'm really curious on how the US will handle this because aside from the fact that SK is a close US ally, there are some rumblings that the military may have supported this self coup due to the National Assembly's vetoing of increased military budget—-presumed to be related to the planned deployment of Korean troops in Ukraine.

The army is blocking members of parliament to enter parliament where it's only place to make martial law invalid
