TB: Prince drags Katy Perry

I've just seen someone earnestly say that Katy Perry has twice as many classics as Prince, and that he was angry about that.

I need climate change to come and finish each and every single one of us off before Friday.

To be fair both of their catalogs are overrated. Prince wile he has classic releases a TON of mid music.

they actually likely the same amount of actual hits.

It's not a scapegoat, if you really knew that user made this thread after another Katycat made a thread about Delusional, that's why my comment.

:dies:

So you're telling me it's not a scapegoat... and as receipt you're showing me a Katy stan making a thread about Kesha ?

OT: Prince talks about Ed Sheeran too, that should be out biggest concern, since he was right, they pulled the plug and his music started flopping s:wan:

So now Katycats can't make any threads about Kesha? while they've been camping under every katy hate thread and even making some of them.

The reason why I'm showing you that thread is because after a user made one thread about Kesha the OP started grasping at straws to 'drag' Katy.

ATRL acting like Prince wasn't a bitter, jealous and most importantly homophobic old man and think he's on some higher level just because he's dead and had 2 classics 30-40 years ago. :rip:

But whatever fuels your Katy hate!

No one cares or has to "understand" his career. People that grew up with his music or knew it are slowly dying meanwhile people that grew up with Katy's music are still young and her music is consistently going viral so new people are more aware of her classics which won't stop for a long time now. Prince also never was and never will be as legendary as MJ or Madonna and his shadow and legacy are fading. No need to cry about it. :giraffe:

Prince is still regularly cited as an inspiration for artists nearly a decade after his death, and his contributions to music helped build the popular landscape.  Katy is barely even 40 and has been relegated to the sidelines of culture (and that's being generous) for as long as he has been gone.

Even if all those things were true, they wouldn't dilute his musical genius or lessen the impact of his opinion.

Katy is regularly cited as influence for newer artists as well and don't pretend like Prince wasn't on the "sidelines of culture" since AT LEAST the new millennium.

The impact of his opinion being an ATRL thread to drag Katy? Slay

Not the point I was making.  What does Prince possibly being homophobic or bitter have to do with his thoughts on the industry?  Katy Perry can't pass a moral purity test, either.  Her reputation is pretty much ruined, but I don't imagine you'd make the argument it should preclude her from having thoughts on the music industry.

he literally pioneered synth patterns and genres of music :rip: nobody could mention his name ever again and he'll still have more impact than katy even if she was tied to an asteroid on a collision course to the pits of hell to follow her career :santa:

Is that why he only has a handful of songs people would recognise and couldn't get a chart hit (album OR single) in the 21st century? :michael:

Anyway, he was always a bitter closet case. Doves Cry still slaps though!

At least she didn't spread rumours of her "fiend" being raped

she was privately texting one person (which is her friend regardless of how famous said friend is), doing that wasnt spreading rumours. the public didnt hear about it until luke had his lawyers release her texts as part of his defamation counter-suit.

and the word youre looking for is friend, not fiend lol

Stop this nonsense. Ed released some great radio friendly tunes. He deserved to be everywhere, even if u don't like him

I like Ed but lets be honest, Shape Of You is nothing special and was basically shoved down everyones ears. It was like that Despacito sing that suddenly became a monster hit and people were wondering why. Such a boring time for mainstream music tbh.

I STAN Prince, I know the deep cuts and then unreleased stuff, but he was a known shady queen and loved being a lil catty and throwing some playful shade here and there, so I wouldn't read too much into this dddd

He probably did like "California Gurls" (which has some Prince-esque elements) and "Teenage Dream", I feel like it's impossible to hate those songs if you love pop music, which he obviously did. The latter sounds like it could be a Gwen Stefani song also, and he was a huge Gwen stan. He covered "Rude Boy" in concert too so he clearly was down with that era of super synth, girly pop music in the early 2010s.

I suspect the Katy songs that irked him were the 'inspirational anthem' ones like "Firework" lol.

Well he passed away at a bittersweet time then, since they stopped trying to "ram her [Katy] down throats" whereas Ed had massive success the year after Prince died. He would be happy to see Ed finally flopping too though :fan:

This has got to be one of the only places in the world where people would put Katy Perry above Prince.

You're just trolling at this point 👿 . The amount of music he wrote for himself, for others, was sampled, still gets played on the radio today. You are clearly out of touch if you cannot recognise, as on a pop culture website, at least 10 or more of these knowingly or unknowingly:

I Wanna Be Your Lover
1999

Little Red Corvette

{When Doves Cry}

Purple Rain

Let's Get Crazy

Darling Nikki

Raspberry Beret

Kiss

Erotic City

U Got The Look

If I Was Your Girlfriend

Batdance

Cream

Diamonds and Pearls

Most Beautiful Girl In The World

Nothing Compares 2 U

I Feel For You

the Like a Prayer album

the Musicology album

mind you many of these are STILL played on the radio around the world, and his videos still featured on MTV and VH1

I think the legend could see it better than us seeing how both Ed and Katy are now flopping. Prince clearly had a vision on who would stay long and become legends like him.
