Beyonnaise Posted November 27 Posted November 27 Pia Mia, Interscope blew millions trying to make her the next Rihanna. It felt like she had a bit of momentum in 2015, she was friends with it girl Kylie, etc. Then she released her best bop that sounded perfectly tailored to the tropical house trend at the time, but it bombed and she was never heard of again 4 2

She's in a good position even without the hits, wouldn't call her a failure personally. 2 2 1

That's true - the Emotion era is a really interesting case study because she had a good lead single (even if it seemed like a Call Me Maybe too) and it was hugely acclaimed but still flopped commercially. It even almost singlehandedly birthed poptimism. On her Instagram a few days ago Carly said that she was a "cool auntie" to her nieces by attending a Sabrina Carpenter concert with them which I found kinda ironic since without Emotion, artists like Sabrina may not be taken as seriously / quite as acclaimed. Carly is kinda the ultimate cool pop star. 9 2
