Future Lover Posted April 2 Posted April 2 In a pre-trial conference earlier today in New York, Judge Jeanette Vargas ruled in favor of Drake's legal team, stating that they can begin deposing executives and requesting documents. Last month, UMG asked the judge to stay all discovery in the case, which included demands for "all contracts" between Kendrick Lamar and UMG as well as compensation and incentives like salaries and bonuses for Interscope CEO John Janick and other executives. Michael Gottlieb, Drake's lead attorney and partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher, celebrated the decision in a statement to Variety: "Now it's time to see what UMG was so desperately trying to hide." https://variety.com/2025/music/news/drake-allowed-request-kendrick-lamar-contract-lawsuit-1236357876/
NewStanner Posted April 2 Posted April 2 How much did he have to pay? Seriously, the law system in the US is so corrupted 2
pride4jc1222 Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Great day for the music industry. The days of payola updates and fraud are over. 1 3 5
penguintim Posted April 2 Posted April 2 (edited) On the plus side, if this goes to trial and Drake loses it'll be even funnier Edited April 2 by penguintim 1

Chart manipulations and frauds aren't going anywhere... if someone wants to find a loophole, they will do it no matter what. Also Kendrick's numbers are ORGANIC so
alexrex Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Shouldn't they be investigating him? Pdfile accusations are a serious matter.
Selegend Posted April 2 Posted April 2 i've never got even in the board of this drama. I'm so gay and brazilian for this.
Venice B Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Quote The suit also accused Universal of colluding with Spotify to falsely inflate streaming numbers for "Not Like Us," a claim that both companies denied. What I find it funny is that he wasn't bothered by the numbers when his diss tracks were making noise but when Kendrick dropped the bomb that was Not Like Us he wants to pretend that its success is all due to payola, when they were in the middle of a very public diss battle. Also, Kendrick got a whole stadium full of people and all the people at the Grammys screaming the lyrics of his song, that's what we call a organic smasha baby 1
suburbannature Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Y'all not understanding that this is just a discovery motion. 1 1 1
