ariana's problem .. i remember it missing #1 being a few points short against fancy :deadbanana2:

in hindsight this is for the best; imagine your first #1 being shared with Iggy Azalea :deadvision: would've been a stain in an otherwise string of perfect #1s (minus SWU)

bad romance being blocked by tik tok is a good example of this

But it wasn't really "in the bag" given there was a competing huge smash? IDK

TikTok was def bigger than Bad Romance back then. It was keshas first song/hit akin to just dance/poker face

Die with a smile, that was so tragic but something even more tragic and iconic was Levitating. :deadbanana4:

she was so unlucky chartwise in the first few years of her career, thankfully it turned in her favor later with a string of #1s back to back

I remember fans fuming because she released the lyric video a bit later during the tracking week, which might've help the song gain a few points :deadbanana2:

Tiktok was huge all over the world and was selling a lot more. Just like how all yall always talk about streaming now and that we should focus on sales well back then it was almost all about sales and Kesha was outselling Bad Romance. I remember even a lot of the other stan bases (Britney, xtina, Beyonce) buying tiktok and even her album just to block and piss of the gaga fans.

Yes but popularity was still measured in terms of how many views you had and people consumed music like that as well. Bad Romance was a monster smash and was even more supported for free than Kesha's song was. In today's charts BR would've knocked down Kesha.

It's so surreal that we are here now. It brings me back to when I would exclaim "but imagine if Britney debuted in the streaming era!!!!!"

OT: Definitely Bad Romance getting blocked Tik Tok. Instantly came to mind.

We Belong Together fully monopolized the radio chart, it was a monster on Pop, Rhythmic, AC, HAC, Urban... all at the same time :deadbanana2:

No one expected streaming to count back then, so

Once upon a time there was thing called the iTunes gift card Christmas boost.

Ke$ha benefitted massively from it and came out of the holiday freeze stomping on everybody.

i'm shocked Espresso never reached the top in the us

and obviously DWAS now falls under this category too

Bad Romance is a Diamond single, idk who are OGHs trying to gaslight saying it wasn't a competitive hit

It wasn't even a few. It was 0.3% at its closest between All of Me, Fancy and Problem :deadbanana2: Possibly one of the most competitive weeks in history

This is exactly why Bad Romance never stood a chance. TT was the PERFECT song to purchase for NYE, then the album release and radio airplay was high alongside those things.
