BorderBoy Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I know y'all must be thinking 'ugh, another comparison thread', and you're right but not in the correct sense. Seriously, both are musicals, both have major pop stars starring in them and the Joker itself was a massive success in its first film so people were expected to be excited for the sequel but it didn't do well. When the Joker flopped, people said not everyone is into musicals but then the Wicked came out and proved them wrong. 6 1 1 9

Popular Post BrokenMachine Posted 6 hours ago Popular Post Posted 6 hours ago (edited) It's such an easy answer: it's about giving their respective fanbases what they wanted. The Wicked movie is carried by an outstanding fanbase of people who love musicals, and have Wicked at their top, and the movie just gave them exactly what they wanted, since they were literally waiting for decades for the movie to finally happen. Meanwhile, the Joker stans wanted J:FAD to follow the same line as the first movie, which it didn't, and on top of that, added the musical element to it Edited 6 hours ago by BrokenMachine 26 4
Domination Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Well, for starters Joker basically spat in the face of anyone who connected to the first one and the musical numbers border on mockery. 12
Popular Post FrederickGa Posted 6 hours ago Popular Post Posted 6 hours ago Because WICKED's fanbase is musical lovers, JFAD's are incels 12 7
JO1s Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Because the first joker was marketed to an audience that despises musicals, and the second joker hid the fact that it was a musical. Wicked is the second highest grossing brodway musical only behind the lion king. It has a wider appeal in age range and it is unapologetically a musical. Audiences don't necessarily hate musicals, they hate poorly executed half assed musicals. 1

LastGreatBloodline Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago JFAD was doomed from the moment they decided it would be a musical. It makes absolutely no sense and doesn't appeal to any demographic. 1
Archetype Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Jfad spat in the face of the very audience that funded it. Everything the fans loved about the first movie was gone and replaced with musical scenes and court drama focused around a weakened Joker. Wicked is a faithful adaptation of a beloved play that was carefully screened tested and tweaked to what seems like perfection. The director wanted fans to love this movie, and that's what seems to be happening! Good for them tbh! 1
Popular Post Burn Posted 5 hours ago Popular Post Posted 5 hours ago I mean it's expected. Ariana is a much bigger name than Gaga in 2024. Just looking at their achievements this year: eternal sunshine: #1 Harlequin: #20 yes, and? manuelalex9810 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Because it's a good movie, they have singers who can act and the songs are good. 2

Using Music Stat in Film Discussion is not the receipt you think it is.. Using that logic, CATS shouldve been the BIGGEST MUSICAL ever 3
