Comparing the lyrics on Goddess to Serpentina and even III, you see a stark difference between her diaristic, relatable lyricism back then and her far more bizarre and elusive (sometimes borderline cringe) lyricism now. But her confidence, vocals, editing, performance, and melodies overall have all improved with each album. She's so talented and there's not a single song of hers I don't come back to (aside from a few on Serpentina) but something has felt like it's missing in her music recently. I hope she proves me so wrong with this album though! that's fair! personally I think that while her pen game has certainly evolved, she still retains some of the ethereal sensual lyricism I always loved. Serpentina was sequenced smartly (if nothing else) because the melodically strongest songs were spaced out well. the first two singles tragically felt like less than great reduxes of past great songs. Meteorite, Holding Back, and Birds by the Sea all brought some interesting texture to the rest of the album that kinda filled it out well. it does feel like she's back on track *knocks on wood* with this new era with the two singles so far as opposed to the slight falter with Serpentina 1
