The 12th Annual ATRL Grammys | Votes due January 12

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Leaving me no choice but to vote for Beyoncé in AOTY. That's really funny. :rip:

EDIT: Oh, the sneak Chappell nom. Yeah I think I'll vote for her even if I listen to Cowboy Carter more.

The way my tastes are wildly out of sync with this site. Honestly I love it. Javelin is better than that entire lineup combined.

I am as confused as you all. She used to utterly dominate the ATRL Grammys. But the great Folklore vs. Future Nostalgia war of 2021 really burned a lot of people. I wonder if they're just steering clear now.

A few of the swifties think you are biased against Taylor and rig things against her somehow, but most of them just don't really care because she wins real Grammys.

It's interesting. He was more in the mix than you would think, but this site is just too pop-oriented.

I thought that might be the case. I feel bad about that, but if it was true, she obviously wouldn't be our all-time most recognized artist. Every year, it feels like the Swifties lean out more and more. This is the first time since the 5th Annual ATRL Grammys that she hasn't scored a single nomination, and I think it's never happened before when she was eligible with a new project.

i like taylor, like TTPD to some value but it's not that great and also, a lot of the categories were asking me to pick fortnight and that's a big ask for anyone apart from the hardcore?

A few of us tried pushing the superior Guilty As Sin but I guess there just wasn't enough support. :michael:

Ariana having the most nominations in a year where her music felt kinda overlooked (until Wicked) is kinda surprising, but nice to see.

Really loving the Jade and Tinashe recognition. Mothers convention :clap3:

If you had asked me the nominations leader, I would have guessed Charli, Beyoncé, Sabrina, Chappell, Billie...a lot of people before Ariana!

So what are your top surprises and snubs this year?

  • ATRL Moderator
Posted

Biggest snub: Obviously, Taylor completely whiffing. But "360" missing Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance shocked me. It was Charli's year!

Biggest surprise: Ariana being the nominations leader might only be eclipsed by Radical Optimism making it into Album of the Year. Yes, that feels even crazier than Magdalena Bay. Pleasantly surprised by all the "Angel of My Dreams" love.

Below is the official ballot for the 12th Annual ATRL Grammys. (You can relive the announcement of the nominations here.)

Members can select one winner in each category, though it is not required to vote in every category. If there is a category where you are unfamiliar with the nominees, it's preferable that you skip it rather than simply pick a name you know — or better yet, use it as an opportunity to discover new music.

Ballots are due by Sunday, January 12, and should be sent by private message.

Sometimes, a nomination makes you question everything you know about the integrity of an awards process. Enter Jade - Angel of My Dreams, a track that has somehow managed to weasel its way into the ATRL Grammys conversation. Let's be real—this nomination reeks of desperation, clout chasing, and, frankly, a severe lapse in musical taste.

Firstly, let's talk about the song itself. "Angel of My Dreams" is neither groundbreaking nor memorable. Its production feels like it was lifted straight from a free stock-music website, with uninspired melodies and a hollow, lifeless beat that wouldn't even make it onto a B-side from a mid-tier pop star. The lyrics are equally banal—filled with clichés so tired they could put a toddler to sleep. If this is what passes for "Grammy-worthy" material, then we might as well start nominating karaoke performances at this point.

What's even more galling is how this track seems to have gained its nomination. It doesn't take much digging to see that this was the result of fan campaigns rather than genuine recognition of artistic merit. Sure, stan culture is a force to be reckoned with, but there's a fine line between supporting your fave and pushing mediocrity into spaces it doesn't belong. Jade's fans may be vocal, but volume doesn't equate to value.

Let's also address the elephant in the room: the competition. This year has been a buffet of artistic excellence, with artists pouring their heart and soul into works that resonate deeply and push boundaries. The inclusion of "Angel of My Dreams" in the same lineup is not just laughable—it's an insult to those who have worked tirelessly to create art that matters. For every slot wasted on filler like this, there's an actual masterpiece being overlooked.

In conclusion, the nomination of Jade - Angel of My Dreams at the ATRL Grammys is a textbook example of how popularity contests can overshadow genuine artistry. It's a sobering reminder that hype often trumps substance in today's music industry. Here's hoping the voters do the right thing and leave this "angel" where it belongs: grounded.

Worst nomination of the year definitely is Radical Optimism as AOTY. Dua did release good singles, but the album was such a let down.
