Ew I absolutely hate the arrangement of Mariah's version. It completely misses the vibe of the song.

What Celine's version did has class to it. You just feel like an elegant, wealthy widow when it comes on.

Why wouldn't you just put the studio versions for both

Neither performed it actually live in the eras they released their versions sadly

No one is touching Mariah's original recording for the 1994 album

Jennifer Hudson has a new version this year that came damn close. It's astonishing.

Mariah's: joyous/gospel

Celine's: haunting/religious

Overall: Mariah wins (both are nice)

I'm not evening joking when I say I worship this screaming ass version of the song. It's so unironically extra that it crosses over into camp and I absolutely live for it.

as for the OT, I prefer the richness of Mariah's version. But Celine's is wonderful.

Celine's version is bland and catholic.

Mariah's version is gospel and joyful. Like STAND UP B*TCHES, THE KING WAS BORN

While I enjoy Mariah's joyful take on OHN, I still prefer Celine's. Her version catches the holiness of the song- sublime yet powerful. I believe it is how OHN should be sung

Her powerful and long D5 note at the end entailed with silence after always gives me chills.

My two favorite renditions of this song. They're both completely different vibes and I love Mariah's twist on it but Celine's version is so nostalgic to me and is like THE rendition of the song. The climax sends chills through my body I fear :bam:

Anyone picking Celine's as better is lying to themselves, I fear.

Love Celine but Mariah's vocals on "O Holy Night" are the most impressive sound ever produced by a human. And that was when auto tune didn't exist. She is belting in her whistle register. It's superhuman.

I love both of their versions so much but if I had to choose between one of them I would go with Mariah's, it's one of my all time favorite christmas songs
