Now that I'm older and have had 18 years to let each album simmer, 1989 is so overrated. It was a cute album but it is sooo flat and watered down in comparison to the rest of her work. If one of her albums could be turned into food, 1989 is equivalent to McDonald's.

it's where she put the most effort into the melodies and production. if it's what you described then what does that make the rest of her discography?
