Letters From Adi Posted Monday at 04:09 PM Posted Monday at 04:09 PM She tried to recrate Problem but the song tanked after just a week. The album got redone (Moonlight->Dangerous Woman). The visuals and song gave very Hilary Duff vibes to me when Focus came out, then underwent a radical shift to have songs like Into You The image and music looks so radically different when you put songs like Everyday side to side (pun intended ) I feel the Focus floppage made her put more emphasis on quality which had declined on ME after YT for commercial success. I think she would continue to make more pop/EDM songs and decline with commercial success each era unlike the growth we saw with TU,N 1
Gladiator Posted Monday at 04:16 PM Posted Monday at 04:16 PM Promoting Wicked like she is today. 2 5
Robburro Posted Monday at 04:20 PM Posted Monday at 04:20 PM what made her stop flopping was going back to Scooter lol i don't think she would've been in a different career state tbh 1 1
Gorjesspazze9 Posted Monday at 04:23 PM Posted Monday at 04:23 PM I mean she only got bigger after that. 1
swissman Posted Monday at 04:32 PM Posted Monday at 04:32 PM (edited) I don't get the idea that if Focus was a success, she would start flopping. Not to mention, she said at the time that Focus was was not like the other songs on the album which is why she released it first. SO if it was a success, but one thinks it would have only been temporary because she needed to be doing something different for continued success, then we'd still have the other songs she said were not like Focus. TayDuaStan Posted Monday at 04:33 PM Posted Monday at 04:33 PM How's Focus a flop when the MV has over a billion views on youtube? 2 1
Rotunda Posted Monday at 04:46 PM Posted Monday at 04:46 PM The same place. The Focus flop also felt a bit like an overreaction from her team but it worked for the best. 2
NEUTRON Posted Monday at 04:46 PM Posted Monday at 04:46 PM Focus did what it needed to in my household. She went 2X Platinum in here 3
T.O.A.D.S. Posted Monday at 04:47 PM Posted Monday at 04:47 PM Focus did not flop and it's one of her songs I hear the most in the real world 1

shoganai Posted Monday at 04:57 PM Posted Monday at 04:57 PM She wouldn't have gotten that atrocious facelift she got that now makes her look like an alien 2 4
Domination Posted Monday at 04:57 PM Posted Monday at 04:57 PM DW woman would have been called Moonlight and Track #2 would have been Focus. Outside that, not much would have changed except maybe Scooter not dumping her for 5 minutes.

formlessminutiae Posted Monday at 05:05 PM Posted Monday at 05:05 PM It's possible she would have experimented less, and I can't live without Sweetener so nothing can change 1
laqqinq Posted Monday at 05:10 PM Posted Monday at 05:10 PM It did not really "flop" at the time of release. More like an underperformance of a song, maybe. It went top 10 in 10 countries, top 15 peak on Billboard Pop Airplay, and almost top 10 (#11) on Billboard Rhythmic radio chart. But the song did not have longevity due to the criticism and negative/mixed response surrounding the similarities (13 weeks on Hot 100). Did they pull the plug on promo and radio for this song as soon as the whole Problem thing happened? Might be a reason why it fell off the charts.

Vixen Eyes Posted Monday at 05:12 PM Posted Monday at 05:12 PM i wish we had gotten the album Moonlight, and later an EP for Dangerous Woman as a deluxe reissue.
TeeJay Posted Monday at 05:12 PM Posted Monday at 05:12 PM It's her best song. That's all I have to add to this conversation.
Truth Teller Posted Monday at 05:22 PM Posted Monday at 05:22 PM I mean... the same people who made Focus made the other DW singles too, so I'm not sure much would have changed. It's not like the whole album was going to sound like Focus. It was probably meant to follow the ME protocol, with all the other singles being more "mature" than the lead.
taylor__fan Posted Monday at 05:27 PM Posted Monday at 05:27 PM Focus MV screamed k-pop influence to me at the time If the song became a huge success, probably the visuals of the album would have been more similar to it, but sound-wise I think it would have still sound like DW
