Why Beyonce's Cowboy Carter WON'T win AOTY

Recommended Posts

Her previous albums which actually made some impact like self titled and renaissance failed to win AOTY then why would CC win one. This nomination is undeserved because even her own fans are not streaming this album. Imo Espresso alone shits on Beyonce's entire discography so sAbrina should get this one

Whitney and Celine don't mislead their audiences about writing their songs / being conceptual masterminds though - I don't think Beyoncé should be rewarded for ripping songwriters off and taking half of their publishing income. That's my honest opinion, which I am entitled to.

Giving Trumpers honestly thinking China pays tariffs. Where is the proof of Beyonce lying and stealing publishing? You either steal credits or credit 51 people for your album, you can't have both :doc:

I've worked in the music industry for 12 years, directly and in close proximity to artists/writers who have contributed to her various projects. This is a known sacrifice that anyone writing for Beyonce has to swallow if they want to have cuts on her records. You deliver a fully finished song, and she then records it and registers it with 50% of the songwriting splits going directly to her. It ensures she generates income on both master/publishing sides and facilitates the narrative that she is a songwriter. So yes, she credits her 'collaborators' but robs them of 50% of their potential earnings.

It's literally not? I just told you I've worked directly with artists with cuts on Beyonce albums. If you want a more direct example, I was on the management team of an artist who delivered a finished track for Lemonade, yet he is only credited with 50% of the composition rights. I still have the demo on my computer, which is lyrically and melodically identical to the finished product. I can't say anything more for obvious reasons, but your girl isn't who you think she is. I'll leave it at that.

Y'all can give me all the thumbs down in the world, it doesn't change the truth of her extremely unethical treatment of songwriters. I'm done engaging with this thread. Wishing everyone a peaceful Monday!

Because it is terrible. Not enough people can see through the smoke and and mirrors.

Let's just assume you're not making any part of this up :toofunny3: it looks like no one was holding a gun to this alleged person's head to do any of this, so why do you care so much?

Beyoncé haters just stay bitter and miserable for no reason :psyduck:

I'm not a hater - big fan of a lot of her work, and think she's a phenomenal singer, dancer, and entertainer.

I can assure you I'm not making any part of this up. I've worked with major label and independent artists, including on a UK #1 album in 2016 and a UK #2 album in 2019. I've worked with artists from North America and the UK.

If you were a lower middle class individual given the opportunity to go into business with a multimillionaire, to do all the work, but to split your profits 50/50 with them... you still benefit greatly, but the ethical dilemma still remains that you are making a rich person even richer by essentially selling the rights to 50% of your product. For some struggling artists, this is too good to turn down. I care so much because good songwriters are dropping like flies because of how little respect they receive in the current business model of the music industry.  This isn't an episode of Dragon's Den or Shark Tank... this is art and intellectual property being credited to someone else. It's classist and immoral.

I don't think CC is a good or great album, but I do agree with those who say these are best odds for her so far. Billie and Taylor already have AOTY wins, Taylor multiple of those too, and other than Andre there are no veteran and long overlooked artists to cause an upset. She's approached veteran status and it makes sense if they give it to her. Charli, Chappell, Sabrina and Jacob are young and might get passed over this time. AOTY and the Grammys in general is more political than it is about merit and if Bey campaigns for it she might actually get it. I don't mind because she should have won with Renaissance and other than Billie (who already has a Grammy from that category) I don't think anyone deserves it more than she does.

What you just described is the business model for MOST companies around the world. I'm not saying it's right or moral but I promise you Beyoncé is not the exception and that also has nothing to do with why this thread was made…

"Songwriters are dropping like flies" yet Beyoncé consistently is providing opportunities for them and yet you're in this thread telling Beyoncé fans "your girl isn't who you think she is"

Alright.

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one!

I'll leave you on a high note. Bodyguard is a great song.

I won't be surprised if CC finally gets her the AOTY win, even though it's much less deserving than ST/Lemonade/Renaissance, as a reparation for her past works that didn't win.
