Why Beyonce's Cowboy Carter WON'T win AOTY

CC is basically a compilation album at this point. If her team didn't force songwriters to give up 50% of their publishing to her (despite her having no involvement in the writing process) in order to be included on her projects, she would be ineligible. She's a brilliant singer and entertainer, but compared to some of the actual songwriters she's up against, she doesn't deserve this specific accolade.

I'm sorry. Is this  is a Songwriter of the Year Award or an Album of the Year? You also want to run down the list of AoTY recipients that didn't write their own material for this award? Like Whitney (an ACTUAL compilation by the way) Celine? Where is the logic?

@TayDuaStan you're going to run out of reactions by the amount of downvotes you're giving in here. Rest.

(Ugh, I wish I could live in this sort of delusional world the next 4 years.)

I get the sense that you dont't have a job in real life. You come off as jobless and in need of a purpose. Very weird

Yeah the "songwriting" excuse doesn't really work when SZA lost AOTY despite being, first and foremost, a songwriter with a critically acclaimed album that had 10 weeks at #1 and two monster smashes. Looking at observable, objective date we can see that there is a clear racial bias among Grammy voters that has not been fixed.

Taylor Swift alone has more AOTY awards than the total number of Black women to have won AOTY which, since 1959, is only 3 women. In fact, the last Black woman to have won AOTY was 25 years ago. We all know why Beyonce won't win AOTY and it has nothing to do with samples, writing credits, or "writing camps".

Well said...they will never ever be able to get this. Whiteness is one of hell of a drug

They changed the rules and you need to have contributed on 20% of the album to get the nomination, but of course a Little Monster from Twitter would use the rules from 2011.

Jay Z got the rules changed I see?

Beyonce finally has a chance

The only people who care how many songwriters are on an album are internet stans of other artists.

The album is bad, that's why it's getting terrible streams despite having a hit single that was doing 10M at one point.

The larger conversation is about whether or not the Academy and Grammy voters take race into consideration when deciding to award/not award Beyonce. I see your point when it comes to the industry overall, and I certainly believe that racism is a major problem in the industry and that many black artists are overlooked. Beyonce is factually not one of them. She is the most nominated and most awarded artist EVER. CC, in fact, became the most nominated album of all time this week (a record previously held by a black man, no less). She continues to break Grammy records to this day. Maybe voters think she just hasn't released an AOTY yet?

I just think the argument of "she's a black woman" in this case is so insensitive to the actual racism and real vitriol that black women receive on the daily, and it only ages more poorly given who won the election this week. When the conversation is about Bey's black woman identity and the Grammy's, the story is one of success, acknowledgement, and achievement. 32 Grammys and the most awarded artist of all time? Crying over one singular award she hasn't one yet makes the story about greed instead.

Sufjan Stevens already clocked your (and the Academy's) tea 7 years ago btw

Who said that?? It's these baseless, grandiose claims about her that induce 74 billion eye rolls per second that I can't take anymore. Let's wait for the future to arrive first before we say it sounds anything like Tankboy Harder :rip:

Music continously evolves, DUMBsparce. Country songs like A Bar Song or Old Town Road or THE all take elements of regular Country Songs and fuse them with HipHop/Rhythmic elements, thus creating a new, interesting soundscape.

Dear oh dear this is really getting to you a lot isn't it. Is there a reason you're such an angry and hate-filled person?

So THE followed the OTR formula but somehow Beyonce is the future instead of Lil Nas who did it 5 years ago? Dumbsparce indeed.

So amusing that each year haters push their keyboards so much over Beyoncé and AOTY.

Songwriting this songwriter that... Why didn't SZA win last year, she had a great album with gigantic success? Why didn't Kendrick win against Taylor?

You can rewrite history and throw cheap shade and she can keep losing that award in particular but in bigger ways she'll always win. Never has it been whispered or implied that an artist deserves that award as much as Beyoncé in the last 2 decades and that speaks volume. The run from ST-Lem-Ren-CC also speaks for itself. I don't see why this thread was needed but it's good that this veteran is still so current to cause so much discourse.

an album / artist you don't like shouldn't get you this worked up, that's kinda not normal behavior :rip:

anyways i really thought sza, an acclaimed songwriter with a highly successful album full of smash hits, not winning aoty last year would finally put a stop to this tired ass "b-b-but sOnGwrIteRs" conversation. but here y'all here, regurgitating the same (false) talking points like every year :rip:

I agree with Sufjan Stevens' overall point, but it does not negate anything I said :rip: sorry but anyone saying the Academy is racist toward the artist they nominate and award the MOST with a straight face is delusional and frankly needs to be educated on what racism is

You guys like to downplay the talent of songwriting bc some of your faves can't do it.

Just like stans of songwriters downplay the skill of singing because their fave can't do it.

Take the stan goggles off. An album with less writers isn't automatically better but if its an album of good quality that IS impressive.

It's not necessarily that I don't like her (which I don't) but bc she's overpraised while other artists with palpable impact instead of fanfics are being paid dust.

overpraising isn't a thing in a world where singers who can't even sing are treated like jesus. y'all talk about this woman like she's some kim petras or camila cabello type of "artist" and not one of the most respected and successful artists of all time—an artist praised and adored by every musical legend for the past 3 decades straight. sorry but i'll take michael jackson's, prince's, or tina turner's word over some nobody's on a dead pop forum :sorry:

besides, how does her being praised take anything away from other artists? maybe go praise the artists you think are more worthy of praise and stop fuming daily over somebody you don't like anyway :michael:
