Jeremiah Posted November 9 Posted November 9 This past week marked the 23rd anniversary of Britney Spears' iconic self-titled album. Let's commemorate with this Popstar! Magazine interview where the legend talks about each song on the album. 11 1
NoAngelus Posted November 9 Posted November 9 My first Britney album, probably my 3rd or 4th by her. Love the whole album. 1
AxelFox Posted November 9 Posted November 9 A very underrated album. I probably use it the most nowadays after In The Zone. Needless to say, an iconic era for the early 00s and arguably peak Britney Spears on a celebrity level. I wish I could re-live those days. 4
Popular Post MatiRod Posted November 9 Popular Post Posted November 9 "Slave 4 U" was kind of avant garde in retrospect. It's a weird song, not a usual pop structure, lots of strange dissonant sounds, and sounds nothing like her first two albums beyond being vaguely pop/funk/R&B inspired like BOMT and Oops title tracks were. 15 2
MerveAksak Posted November 9 Posted November 9 My mum and me blast slave 4 u everytime we're in the car. A bonding experience for both of us 5 1
imason Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Slave 4 U was the perfect lead choice to this album. I know a lot of people say the singles peaks were low during this era but it's only bc of her dispute with the Pepsi clear channel radio stations pretty much weren't playing the singles. Don't forget "Britney" album was also cross promoted with the movie "Crossroads". Overall the album did good sales. It marked her the first female to have first 3 albums debut at #1. I do wish that they had made "Cinderella" "Lonely" "Let Me Be" singles at some point. Britney did have a lot of writing credits on the album but once they decided promote it as a Crossroads soundtrack with IMNANYAW, it dived more into the soundtrack to the movie kind of album to the GP. SLAVE DID SET THE TONE PERFECTLY THO. 1

Hearing it in the Overprocted music video intro omg. Honestly Overprotected was also a hint that she was trying to tell us something was up, I believe the control was always there before the ship even begun. 1
Totami Legend Posted November 9 Posted November 9 top 3 album in her discography, the bonus tracks 1 1
bennythatway Posted November 9 Posted November 9 while i love IS4U, do you all think it was a mistake to be the lead single? I feel like it alienated about half of her young fans for being too sexual. when in fact, it doesn't represent the whole album. 1
Erreur2 La Nature Posted November 9 Posted November 9 It's not among my favorite Britney albums tbh but I really love it. I remember hearing Slave, Overprotected and Boys absolutely everywhere back in the days !

There she started making some mistakes, later on she just didn't really care 1

OT: It's a shame the two best songs, I Run Away and Before the Goodbye, were relegated to bonus tracks. They really should've just made the standard edition 15 tracks with no deluxe, especially, considering a portion of the album was cross-promotion for Crossroads. Edited November 9 by crf13 1 1

I think she would've had better success if the overprotected remix or lonely would've been the first to bridge over to slave. Done something slightly sexy and then go harder on slave.
leyaris11 Posted November 9 Posted November 9 How times flies... I feel so nostalgia right now. I was shocked with the mv of IA4U, and it's so explicit that's can't even air in my country, the artwork for the album is amazing with the main blue color. All all the songs are amazing, such a pop excellent... "Let me be", "Bombastic love", "What's It Like To Be Me". "Lonely", "Overprotected" EAT!!! And let's not mention DWAD tour.
velocity Posted November 9 Posted November 9 i got this album as a little girl and i played it non-stop and still love to listen to it to this day a SERVE 1

Jeremiah Posted November 10 Author Posted November 10 8 minutes ago, Josh said: but Im Not a Girl was an even bigger mistake only girls relate to it Well, INAGNYAW was always meant a single since it's the centerpiece of Crossroads, which was even referred to as "Not A Girl" before the official name. And not too much on it, it's an iconic song and a cult classic. 2
