OrgVisual Posted November 8 Posted November 8 We all know what happened in 2021. But it seems like Grammy-snub disease has spread from The Weeknd to his frequent collaborators as well Ariana - snubbing all the time, only 2 Grammys in total Lana - still 0 Grammy wins despite being one of the most acclaimed artists of our time Doja - 1 win out of 20 nominations What's happening here? I'm trying to see a pattern
DonnaSpring Posted November 8 Posted November 8 Ariana has not made good enough work to justify more wins Lana Del ray, lol her music is so bland and one dimensional Doja Cat is a bit too commercial for real grammy appeal 2 9

Moonlight Nation Posted November 8 Posted November 8 (edited) Ariana's issues with the Recording Academy started before The Weeknd's 2021 snub (as shown by your screenshots above + her public dispute with higher-up figures in early 2019 which led her to drop out from performing that year). Similar situation with Lana, who only got four nominations between 2012-2020 (one of them being by technicality as she was featured on The Weeknd's AOTY-nominated "Beauty Behind The Madness") Interestingly, Abel actually got nominated four times after his boycott, since he doesn't control collaborators from submitting songs he's featured on. Even more chaotic... he won a Grammy the following year. WIN -> Best Melodic Rap Performance in 2022 for "Hurricane" (Kanye West ft. The Weeknd & Lil Baby). Fun fact: this win also came the very year after Kanye filmed himself peeing on a Grammy award 2 NOMINATIONS in Album of the Year (2022) as a songwriter and featured artist on Kanye West's "DONDA" and Doja Cat's "Planet Her" NOMINATION -> Best Melodic Rap Performance in 2025 for "We Still Don't Trust You" (Future & Metro Boomin ft. The Weeknd) Ironically, his actual hit as a feature - "Creepin" - failed to get any nominations last year. Edited November 8 by Moonlight Nation
glitch Posted November 8 Posted November 8 Didn't Ariana refuse to perform 7 Rings at one point? I wonder if they're holding a grudge
R.E.M. Posted November 8 Posted November 8 2 hours ago, glitch said: Didn't Ariana refuse to perform 7 Rings at one point? I wonder if they're holding a grudge From what I remember, she wanted to perform TU,N/7R but they wanted her to perform something from Sweetener (since she was nominated that year for that album). She got annoyed that one of the producers tried to stifle her creativity and pulled out of performing days before/did not attend. Still bagged the BPVA Grammy anyway OT: Ariana should have more wins on paper, but if you look at who she's competed against it seems she's always been unlucky with timing. Her earlier albums (YT, ME, DW) were up against absolute titans in pop music (e.g., Taylor, Ed Sheeran, Gaga, Katy, Sam Smith, Adele). Her peak era with TU,N had the misfortune of competing against Billie, who was unstoppable (and has been since; multiple GF Grammys and two Oscars). This, coupled with really terrible submissions (e.g., submitting '7 rings' over 'thank u, next' and 'God is a woman' over 'no tears left to cry' for BPSP) mean that she has enough enthusiasm from voters to get nominated, but not enough passion to inspire votes in the second round. She also doesn't care enough to effectively campaign so the blame is partly on her. Winning Grammys in genre categories is about striking the perfect combination between commercial success and critical acclaim. Lana is at a disadvantage here because her most commercially successful work was released during a time where she was lauded by critics/treated like a joke. Her critical acclaim has improved, but now the sales aren't as strong so she never really has a compelling campaign. I also think her team has snaked her with some terrible submission choices, and only recently started submitting her to the appropriate genre category. I still think a win is possible now that she's actually being considered for alternative categories. The fact that she consistently shows up in the general field categories is a sign that she is taken seriously by voters. We just need her to tighten up her submissions and effectively campaign. Doja is appropriately awarded imo. Many female rappers win 1-4 Grammys throughout their career so she's where we would expect her to be, but she's often never been the clear front-runner in any category (except BPDGP where she rightfully won). 1
Bookmark99 Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Grammys are politics. Ariana had beef with them a few years ago over something so no surprise they didn't nominate her.
