Mylene Farmer should have kept Moi...Lolita, Alizee wasn't deserving of such a smash

this classic :jonny5:

I remember my French teacher showing this song to our class when we were like 14-15 and we had to analyze it and translate it to Spanish and we didn't understand sh*t because we got lost in the metaphors. she kept saying if we ever got back to it one day we'd get what the song was about :deadbanana:

You know those songs that you hear on the radio as a kid and love them, but as you grow up you either cannot find them or you completely forget about them? I've been a Moi Lolita stan for years, but this song... Girl, you just unlocked something in me! I used to ****ing get my life to this song when I was young and I haven't heard it in years :weeps: omg omg omg thank you for posting this and reminding me of this masterpiece!!

Nah. This song was meant for Alizée. Mylène has many classics herself so not a big loss

None of Alizée's songs could've worked for Mylene they were clearly written for a young pretty ditzy girl

Fun fact: She tried to have another Alizée a couple years ago and flopped terribly, her entire catalogue sounds extremely DATED and some of her songs are sooo painfully trying to give I'm still in touch with gen Z slang, a mess.

That one is a bop ngl

The song is very Mylene but I don't think it would've been able to smash outside of France and Belgium had she kept it for herself. I have a theory that Mylene considered retiring so she tried to make Alizee some sort of a protege anyway

She apparently didnt like that Mylene and Laurent were controlling every aspect of her artistry...she also wanted to settle down with her puppy love boyfriend and lost ambition and Mylene and Laurent wanted to work her like a work horse because they literally envisoned her being the second coming of Mylene but more cutesy etc but she didnt have the ambition. I think she split from them and soon after that got pregnant if im not mistaken. It's kinda a shame that they didnt land on a girl who was crazy hungyry for success and as driven as Mylene was when she was young. They kinda wasted time, money and amazing tracks on an artist who just didnt want it at the end. Tho I do respect Alizee for taking a stand for herself nad knowing what she wants even tho it cost her her career and relevancy

She did drop several albums with one curious venture into synthpop but she has ultimately lost her momentum

Imagine mylenes 40 year old ass singing moi lolita lmao

Alizee was the perfect popstar in her first 2 eras, the fact that that she fumbled it afterwards wont change that.

They made magic with moi lolita tho, 24 years later and im still hooked. Alizees soft vocals, the production and video... nostalgia for a time when europe was happy and dancing.

In latinamerica we know Alizee we don't know the other so... no :turkey:

This is true, though, I am still surprised how Alizée broke through here when we are barely exposed to french artists.

the song and Alizee's delivery are so Mylene that you can barely hear any difference between the original and the AI Mylene demo lol

i don't think it would've been as big of a hit had Mylene sung it though, Alizee was young and new and it just made more sense for her. that's why Mylene gave her the song. i don't think i have seen any other pop star mentor and literally 'create' their successor in such a direct and literal way, Mylene is really legendaric and one of a kind

Mylene wouldnt have made it a huge hit all over europe

Hmm no, the song is about a young girl, she wrote with Alizée in mind (or at least someone like her), it actually made her even more of a legend when she and her co-writer succeeded in making Alizée such a star right off the bat and which such a song.

It would've been weird regarding the lyrics, and she had already explored this topic with Libertine. Alizée has a nice voice and charisma, that's why the song was so successful too but at the end, C'est une belle journée was a better choice for Mylène.

It's kinda the path of any child star tho :rip:

Seems like she didn't like fame (and stalkers) that much, so nowadays she does... whatever
