Mylene Farmer should have kept Moi...Lolita, Alizee wasn't deserving of such a smash

Queen of French dark pop Mylene Farmer, wrote and co produced the entirity of Alizee's debut album. She created Alizee as a pet project for when she took a break from music in the early 2000s BUT she literally accidently gave away one of France's bitggest smash hits to Alizee aka Moi..Lolita. Mylene should have kept that song. While the themes are trivial since its about a young woman, Mylene was still young enough to pull it off as like a fetish song instead of it being literal or whatever. Gourmandise in general should have been kept and reworked to be more mature but Moi...Lolita could have remained as is and still worked for Mylene. It would have been one of her biggest hits too (not that she needed more but my gosh was Moi...Lolita a opus and could have given her another career peak).

Are you crazy? That song was meant to be sung by a barely legal pretty girl. Think of it as the BOMT of France/Europe. A 40 y.o. wouldn't do it justice.

u guys just dont see the vision AT ALL!!!! mylene was smoking hot at that time. that was her beauty peak and it would have worked with her singing the song regardless of her age. She could do it like she is playing a role instead of it being literal. Dont be thick hunties. :-*

i think mylene could do it too (like Appelle mon numéro), but the song was clearly written for alizee.

this song is equivalent to baby one more time, with both been very controversial.

why did mylene and alizee stop working together after the second album? they made great music.

i hate that they stopped working together but i actually do like alizee's discography without laurent and mylène (especially blonde, it's corny but it's kinda fun)

I do see the vision IBeMe, Mylenes visual ideas would've made it happen the way you say it and she could've turned it into an ageism song. Around those years Mylene was smashing with C'est Une Belle Journee and Les Mots so I am sure she was unbothered anyway.

There are some Mylene vocals in Moi Lolita anyway so the file should exist somewhere in her hard drive

Yeah it would have been a big hit for Mylène but she has already so many hits and is the Queen Of Pop in France so it's ok

She must have recorded a demo before giving the song to Alizée, would be cool to hear it with her voice

Vocally, it would've been interesting but people would've made fun of her singing "I am a lolita" at almost 40 years old. :skull:

But I wish she had kept "J'en ai marre" though :'(

She apparently didnt like that Mylene and Laurent were controlling every aspect of her artistry...she also wanted to settle down with her puppy love boyfriend and lost ambition and Mylene and Laurent wanted to work her like a work horse because they literally envisoned her being the second coming of Mylene but more cutesy etc but she didnt have the ambition. I think she split from them and soon after that got pregnant if im not mistaken. It's kinda a shame that they didnt land on a girl who was crazy hungyry for success and as driven as Mylene was when she was young. They kinda wasted time, money and amazing tracks on an artist who just didnt want it at the end. Tho I do respect Alizee for taking a stand for herself nad knowing what she wants even tho it cost her her career and relevancy

THANK YOU SIS :jonny: I thought ppl couldnt see the vision. It totally would have worked as an ageism anthem / sarcastic and kinky too. Also shook to heart her vocals on it. :jonny5:i wish someone made an AI cover / version tbh. I'm kinda very salty about it not being her song tbh :(

Oh for sure Mylene recorded a demo because u can even hear it in how Alizee sings the song. She clearly just repeated Mylene's vocal delivery in her version. I need it to leak somehow :'( tho it was recorded in the 2000s so it prob just doesnt exist anymore :(

It's okay Mylene has an entire catalogue worth of classiques. She must've had some to spare

I heard she got pregnant after her second or third album too :deadbanana2:

I know it's right that she stuck up for herself and her artistry, but she made the decision that made her career flop. She should've establised her name more, especially since she was already on a decline with her second album. Cutting ties with the one of the most influential personas in france and the best selling artist in france was certainly a choice ..

I always come back to this performance, it's giving early britney

but i'm not too sad that mylene gave lolita to alizee, mylene already has like .. 40 #1s in france and alizee did justice to the song.

There's already an AI cover of her on youtube too

It would've sounded weird and 40yo singing Moi Lolita lol, also it's not like Mylene is in need of hits.

Alizee was sooo beautiful. Best days of pop music!

The way this song was INESCAPABLE in Greece.

Every single soul knows it here!

I still love it!

You can thank AI for this @IBeMe

This song is 1000% Mylene from the lyrics to the delivery to the vocal inflections :giraffe:

I see the vision, it could have worked perfectly as a trilogy with California and CEUBJ as someone already put it.

There's sonically a similarity and lyrically it could have put together a nice narrative, with that said let's NOT go hard on Miss Alizee.

She had every right to stand for herself and Mylene should've respected Alizees space. If she wanted to have a break and care for her family and get more creative control Mylene could have easily accepted it and kept working with her. They could have kept a good artistic collaboration and Alizee would probably end up more ambitious if she had more control, since the rewards of success and acclaim would be harder and more prosperous overall

Still her third album was cute and honestly Une Enfant du Siecle is high key her best album and almost up there with Mylene and her best work.

She was at a creative peak, impersonating the Warhol clique.

omg i always wondered how did Alizée smashed with those instant classic hits, it makes so much sense that the biggest french hitmaker Mylène was behind them

the pet project is sending me :deadbanana4:

None of Alizée's songs could've worked for Mylene they were clearly written for a young pretty ditzy girl

Fun fact: She tried to have another Alizée a couple years ago and flopped terribly, her entire catalogue sounds extremely DATED and some of her songs are sooo painfully trying to give I'm still in touch with gen Z slang, a mess.
