Spicy Pisces Posted November 7 Posted November 7 (edited) More of the psychedelic rock inspiration she promised. There was only a tinge of that in Training Season, I wanted it to go deeper and make it the overall sound of the album Edit: I think a stronger point of view could've helped, cause it looked and sounded all over the place. Was it a summer album, or a somber vibe, or...? Edited November 7 by Spicy Pisces 2

katara Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Should have went with the Houdini/TS sound for the whoe album instead of those vanilla midtempos we got 10

I think Houdini, Illusion, Training Season and Happy For You were good cuts but the rest of the record is SO mid. I think this would have been a banger had Dua recorded it…

Adir Posted November 7 Posted November 7 In terms of sound, I think I got exactly what I wanted in RO. Whatcha doing, French Exit, Maria, Falling Forever - these are really great songs by Dua. I expected it to be more commercially successful, but seems like the album rollout was taking forever and it was bit messy. (I mean, Houdini came out in October 2023, but RO only in May 2024 while Ariana, Taylor and Beyonce all dropped their albums only 1-2 months after their lead) The only thing I wanted is maybe a bit more songs on RO, but I'm satisfied with what I got and I have a feeling Dua has a lot in store for us in the years to come. 2
LovingDays Posted November 7 Posted November 7 (edited) Exactly what we got. RO is her best album yet. I don't keep up with Dua like that, so I'm not disappointed by the bad rollout I've seen some stans complain about. The music is what I'm focused on and I liked it Edited November 7 by LovingDays 1

JoeAg Posted November 7 Posted November 7 anything after Future Nostalgia… like lbr for a second that raised such an INCREDIBLY high bar in so many ways. she set a trend in motion with Future Nostalgia, and since then we've had upbeat pop everywhere. she heralded something, and people were expecting that she'd herald something else with Radical Optimism. I mean yeah, the psychedelic pop thing was and still is absolutely fresh and sounds awesome, but it's a murkier endeavor cause the most iconic psychedelic music that can be thought of on the spot was psychedelic ROCK, with the Beatles, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Love, etc. setting standards in the late 60s for what trippiness could entail, fused with timelessness. so going for "psychedelic pop" doesn't necessarily conjure anything immediate for the GP. she could've also gone FULL new wave, like to the point where a lead single has NOTHING but new wave pastiche vibes! even more than what The Weeknd did with Blinding Lights, like I'm talking full on Number 1 by Goldfrapp, Gary Numan, Real Life, The Human League, Kim Wilde, OMD NEW. F*cking. WAVE. euphoric synth solo mandatory! that'd conjure up exactly the kind of trendsetting Future Nostalgia did imo. I mean Cool? she ate that song UP
JoeAg Posted November 7 Posted November 7 but I do really enjoy a lot of songs on Radical Optimism regardless
TayDuaStan Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Dream pop. Like Happy For You (aka the only good track on RO).
NumbSoul Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I actually do like the album a lot, it's just that the way it was promoted and structured was confusing... The aesthetics, the singles picked, the tracklisting - I know what the idea was, but it just wasn't executed well and it made for a bit of a mess of an era. 1
TayDuaStan Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I want her to release Oh My Gosh! as the next single. Who cares it's an FN reject… It washes everything on RO by a mile
illia Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Also I'm still obsessed with Firestarter Maybe something like this Dua pleaseeeee 2
AvadaKedavra Posted November 7 Posted November 7 (edited) If i were Dua i would come with one of these concepts : Dancehall/R&B-Urban/Arabic/Electro/Something sexy and tropical/Miami/Nocturnal/Sexy. Rihanna is retired, so DUA should take her place A team of Hitmakers and High Budget directors. Bye Bye kevin parker or maybe something late 90s-Y2K. Very Early Britney,Xtina,Barbie. So 2000s esque. Call Max Martin Or i would be here for something very sophisticated, themed around fame,California, luxury,to be a rich bish. music themed around shopping, To be a model, Fashion. runway, spa, vacations. Something like The Fame but better. Dua is very classy, so i think this concept would work for her or here for a GOOD GIRL GONE BAD Concept. Dominatrix esque. Maybe james bond. Something very british. Pop with dark undertones Things i dont want: Country Record (Dont see the point) Rock Record (I dont know if her voice would suit this genre) Album based around experimental EDM-Rave music-culture (It would be great but i feel like so many would say she's trying to copy-steal the charli xcx sound) Edited November 7 by AvadaKedavra 1 1 1
Mornings Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Something more interesting. Either lean in and get trancey and vibey and weird or get juicier and take us on a journey like Britney's Heaven on Earth. It's just kind of middle of the road bland IMO
Peroxide Posted November 7 Posted November 7 (edited) Let's create Peroxide's version of Radical Optimism… 1. Mercy (originally performed by The Blessed Madonna & Jacob Lusk) 2. Houdini 3. Wild Things (originally performed by LAUREL) 4. Training Season 5. Situations (originally performed by Nicolina - some production tweaks needed) 6. Illusion 7. Criminal (originally performed by LU KALA) 8. No Room For Love (originally performed by Dotter) 9. Don't Let My Boyfriend Get In Your Way (originally performed by Alice Chater) 10. Cupid's Bow (originally performed by Olly Alexander) 11. Good To Me (originally performed by VINCINT) 12. Happy For You 13. Dance The Night (Bonus Track) Edited November 7 by Peroxide
