Solaria Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I personally love RO as an album and I understand why it's an important album for her, but I also know that a lot of people (including myself) were misled by the hints she dropped during 2022-2023. Before she announced the 70s psychedelia inspiration which caused mass shockwaves around the globe and in the Dua base, there were speculations that the album was taking a 90s rave direction (partially due to her collaboration with PUMA). And then in 2021, long before the sessions for RO had officially started, there was a photo of a Discord chat with Ian Kirkpatrick circulating that stated that the ''new songs were heading in a funk direction''. A.K.A. not the things that RO ended up being. What is the personal direction you would have liked Dua to have taken for her third album?
DutchKing Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I wish she could do the direction of greedy like a timbaland kind of song 2
Rhyme Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I still like the album, but it's sad how she almost had the perfect sound for 2024 with Danny L Harle producing and the original electronic rave/Ray of Light influences she mentioned. Like that's exactly what people are craving right now with BRAT and Addison's Aquamarine. She had her finger on the pulse, but she missed completely. 6 2
Florence Belch Posted November 7 Posted November 7 (edited) I'm actually finding Radical Optimism far more replayable than Future Nostalgia: I agree that there are parts where it's kinda bland, but you can tell she put a lot of work in it Houdini and Training Season are also massive BOPS that keep aging like fine wine Edited November 7 by Florence Belch 6

halcyonday Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I just wanted an album that sounded like Houdini and TS. Instead we got faceless H&M bops. What a catfish. 2 5
Illuminati Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I liked the singles, it probably should have been like a darker Future Nostalgia 2
ImpressMeMuch Posted November 7 Posted November 7 A consistent rollout and vibe, it didn't feel confident even though it started off strong 1
LOTF Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I like what we ended up getting, I really do. But I wouldn't lie if I said I was kinda let down. I expected something more with a punch. I think she could've captured more the attention of online phagz had she gone a more club friendly route

Idk what kind of Albanian liquor she was on during November 2022 but she shoulda kept pouring some more glasses for the other studio sessions! 2 1
West Coast Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I liked RO too but i would've loved the psychedelic pop she was talking about in the vein of Houdini and some 80s synthpop
itshyolee Posted November 7 Posted November 7 A dark pop album would eat me thinks. She needs her Rated R 1
MP3 Posted November 7 Posted November 7 If it was an album with the sound of the singles it would have smashed But the non-single are so bland
Katamari Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Massive attack style big beat album with hints of Mobys Play and drum and bass 3
wish Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I don't care what she does sonically, but she needs to get personal in her lyrics. I wanna know who Dua Lipa actually is - her dreams, her heartbreaks, her upbringing, her traumas, etc. Dig a little deep and give us something we can actually connect with on a personal level. Enough of this faceless "dance all night, dance the night away" crap that no one will remember or care about in 5 years. 5 1 1
nostalgic Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Trip hop/downtempo/ambient influences. She would kill that sound. 2

I mean she did kind of open up more on this album with These Walls and French Exit. But I think a glimpse like that is as far as we will get tbh. She's veryyyy guarded and private and especially after the Go girl give us nothing incident she completely removed herself from being involved with her fans online. 1

AshleyLovescats887 Posted November 7 Posted November 7 (edited) I thought the project would be more personal lyrically and leaning more towards darkpop rather than diet pepsi (with pickles) I do love the album that we have tho Edited November 7 by AshleyLovescats887 1
