Optimus Posted November 7 Posted November 7 With the right song she can me thinks. The problem is that nowadays there is always a problem with her songs. Its either gonna be too loud or her voice is off putting( those nasal opera vocals are the pits ). If the verses are good the chorus will be a let down. Or the production will suck. Its either her fault or the teams she surrounds herself with. With The Fame/Monster she knew how to write a good catchy pop song with pleasant vocals and explosive choruses. How pop songs should be made. 5
Gladiator Posted November 7 Posted November 7 What's his ATRL username? He can't get away with stealing content from our experts!!! 8
Archetype Posted November 7 Posted November 7 The author suggested she make hard rock or folk-country music instead of pop, so we know they HATE us. We want pop music from her right now, period.

How pop songs should be made. I think what was so magical about The Fame Monster and Born This Way was that she was very much taking clear inspiration from pop masterpieces and blending it with a near-parody through her very unique lens. There was a sense of pop music celebration but also tongue-in-cheek effervescence. She straddled the serious and the silly. Starting with ARTPOP though, she kind of went too far into the serious while also upping the silly to a point where each were competing rather than balancing each other and it didn't work as well, and her subsequent pop releases like Chromatica and Disease don't have enough silliness or seriousness. Inspiration seems to have been taken from her own musical history rather than that of others which could be good if she did with her own sound what she did with Ace of Base's in Alejandro or Madonna's in Born this Way or Bruce Springsteen with The Edge of Glory or Shania with You and I but instead it didn't add much to it, it just presented the style again for the second time. All in all, I agree with the right material she'd be fine on the charts. What I think she needs to do is not return to what made her famous/popular, but return to the ethos that made her famous/popular. Because a lot of pop girls with a certain dance pop sound were having hits in 2009-2012 but not everyone was doing even 1/10th of what Gaga was doing conceptually. 5
Pop Art Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Surprised but glad to see certain ATRLers actually have jobs. It's unfortunate that they can't seem to distance themselves from petty stan wars even in a professional environment though. 9
BrokenMachine Posted November 7 Posted November 7 It stops being funny once mainstream media picks up ATRL stories

zach Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I mean it... it's all true. I don't get why they didn't just postpone Disease when Smile is smashing. They could have just waited till January, which would have given it a better chance on the charts after the Christmas season is over. 1

zach Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I would LOVE to see her do a whole record like Smile That rocky sound really suits her. 1

Ever since 2013 she's pushing one big single along with album release, its up to her right now if she's gonna push a solo 2nd single or collaborative 2nd single. We'll wait and see missy. She's a hitmaker and will always remain as one! 1

Disconnect Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I think the article is making VERY clear point and it's even supporting Gaga but some of y'all are way to blind to listen and that's why she keeps flopping (because she listens to you lol): Quote "The successes of "Smile" and "Rain on Me" show that listeners still see Gaga as a pop star on a similar tier to Mars or Grande; that's what makes those collabs so exciting. They're just waiting for her to move the needle on her own again." They're basically saying that she really needs to do something different in order to be successful by herself again. I do like her because she's so ******* talented BUT going back to her Pop Roots is NOT the answer. The reason why Disease (only the song) was such a disappointment for me was because it just sound like a bunch of her old stuff mixed-up together. IDK why y'all don't want her to move on tbh. We already got her Pop Classics, she needs to do something different now. 5

Delirious Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Gays are so unprofessional...why would you even write a weird article like this 6
Youngbae Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I was thinking about it the other day... Based on how her career went in 2016-2024 (maybe even going back as far as CTC), it's not that she needs a bigger artist to duet with her, it's the fact that she needs a gimmick for people to pay attention after week 1. It was Superbowl for Million Reasons, the ASIB hype for Shallow and ARUTW, Ari/BP for Chromatica tracks, Bruno for DWAS. When there is no connection to something or someone bigger than her, when she's not riding someone's coattails (no shade intended), when it's just "new music by Lady Gaga", its commercial potential is limited to a pretty niche (not small, but niche) audience. That's not to say that she is complete flop, her brand (so to say) holds enough weight for people to give her big movie roles and duet with her, but it's definitely not big enough for her music to stand on its own. Just compare Stupid Love or Disease to Break My Soul, and you'll see what I mean. Yes, BMS is not doing that well as a catalogue hit, but it was able to hold the audience's attention for more than a week, and all 3 songs were their first singles after a long break. Same with Cuff It, actually. I think Gaga herself realizes it too, unlike her fanbase that lives in a fantasy land where a pretty pointless metric like Spotify monthly listeners is something that puts her above Taylor (as if). However, when that gimmick does not work (like Joker 2: FAD), there is no saving her, which made Harlequin/Disease back to back bombs. I say good on her for being humble, knowing her current place in the industry and no longer starting that messy **** that almost destroyed her career in 2011-2013. 8
