Popular Post swissman Posted November 7 Popular Post Posted November 7 (edited) Though we could point to Shallow and DWAS as examples of her collaborations outperforming her solo hits, I think the key ingredient here is not so much the other singer but that they both are a sort of non-threatening, uncontroversial, classic-type pop song that appeals not only to young people (they have great melodies) but older people too who aren't into the whole ostentatious pop that Gaga is known for. I think this is a major reason that someone like Adele is so popular and successful, and both song could easily be sung by Adele, being in the same category of her own music where it's simply about a good song and there's really nothing challenging listeners at all. As for Rain on Me, that song is miles better than Stupid Love and if it had been a solo song and the debut, I would say that it could have debuted at #1 or higher than #5 which isn't very low to begin with. Popular Post NoAngelus Posted November 7 Popular Post Posted November 7 Her career has been on life support ever since BTW, only collabs with bigger artists and payola are keeping her alive. The fact that she's out of 50 on Spotify while being WHOLE WEEK at #1 on TTH. The payola will never stop. 21 6 8 1 19

Onyxmage Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Now that Trump won she should release another pseudo midwestern christian ballad like Million Reasons. It will be a HIT in the rustbelt states. 1 3

swissman Posted November 7 Posted November 7 (edited) In the case of both Stupid Love and Disease, unfortunately both are watered down retreads of what we already have, and what was impactful and fresh sounding when she did it in 2010 and 2011, but which now is only as exciting as an announcement of a "return to form" could be without that form having been improved upon or evolved. So, I don't think what's stopping her is a lack of solo interest but rather a lack of great pop singles as she once was known for. It just so happens that the greatest singles she's put out in the last 6 years have been collaborations. Edited November 7 by swissman 5 2 1
Alongoria13 Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Wbk Using ARUTW as an excuse is weird, imagine Madonna stans saying Erotica was a solo hit! in 2000? 14 2

Touring is more popular than ever. And even there she is far behind. Katy will also sell tickets. Hopefully this helps you. 9 1 9

Just a Gay on ATRL Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Honestly that article is horrible, shameless "journalism". The cultural obsession with solo hits is really weird. Literally who cares? She has tons of solo hits to her name in her long career, more than most musicians will ever achieve now or in the future. This feels like a petty attempt to discredit her. Other artists in pop, rap and country constantly collaborate with other artists. I think about half, if not more, of her collaborator Bruno Mars' US Top 10s are collaborations. Post Malone's latest album is almost entirely collaborations and no one gives af. Most rap artists entire discographies are collaborations. I've consistently noticed the differentiation of "solo" versus "non-solo" hits is a nuanced standard strictly put on female artists and much less on male artists. Seems to be a way to kinda discredit female artists' long accomplishments, as if they're trying to say "well Gaga used to have solo hits, but now because they're not solo, she's a has been!" This statement is obviously untrue but I think that's the insane logic some of these people are using when shouting about "solo hits". I also think us pop fans need to take a step back and question why we are questioning women about "solo" hits or not. It just seems super ill intentioned to me. 6 1
