Hollywood has a very textbook approach to treating certain social topics in feminist movies and shows that can come across as not genuine and often forced. Not that the message isn't valuable, but it may feel performative at points. The Substance is very feminist, but in a way that is much deeper and makes you feel uncomfortable about how the world views women, especially how women view themselves and other women. It's horrific and brutal. It's something that Hollywood could never create. Fair points! But I don't think that this is a film that's totally separate from Hollywood -- it still has Hollywood actors (Quaid and Moore), and the studio is still owned by an American company
EnterTheAttic Posted November 6 Posted November 6 I watched it for Demi! Months ago I read about Demi being in a movie that's gathering Oscar nomination buzz, so I was intrigued. Then I read that it was a body horror movie and I was sold. It's my genre! I am rooting for her to win the most awards possible!
