GraceRandolph Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Judy Garland released Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas in 1944, Mariah released AIWFCIY in 1994, so in 2044 another classic is coming. 1
Eternium Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Santa Tell Me One More Sleep Underneath The Tree My Only Wish (This Year) All of them will have classics at some point - Christmas is two months in the Western world and up to four months in parts of the Eastern world. Nobody will reach AIWFCIY, but people aren't going to only listen to one song for two months.
Støned Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Britney is the closest I guess. Her Christmas song is already a staple here in SEA.
Nickibaby Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Ari is she ever promotes STM the way Mariah promotes AIWFCIY!
Devin Posted November 2 Posted November 2 ariana the only modern day artist i could see taking over xmas. she already has santa tell me doing well.

Yeah, it sort of lacks that to a level. Still is becoming kind of a modern day Christmas classic, especially as in post-2010s. 1

laqqinq Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Underneath the Tree and Santa Tell Me are modern day classics I guess, obviously not on the level of AIWFCIY but they're still big, they have good recurring chart runs/streaming numbers every holiday season 1
Sometimes James Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Santa Tell Me (Naughty Version) is the only right answer 2

Mandalay Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Why hasn't anyone mentioned Gaga's song? The one with adult lyrics.
ericcartman Posted November 3 Posted November 3 (edited) No. Even Mariah didn't know she was gonna do it, it was kind of a lightning in a bottle. I could see Underneath the Tree becoming bigger. Plus she appeals to correct demographic and doesn't have a big pop music career. But it won't be like AIWFCIY Edited November 3 by ericcartman

Brenda Lee with Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree released in 1958 was probably the biggest female Chistmas song before Mariah released. 1
Genius1111 Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Kelly's Underneath The Tree indeed has that cross-generational appeal, but that top 10 on the Hot 100 still looks ever so elusive. In my part of Asia, besides AIWFCIY, I hear more of Taylor's version of Last Christmas and Britney's song.
