Tropez Posted November 1 Posted November 1 Like successfully cancelled, hated, panned, and flopped. But then uncancelled, loved, acclaimed and successful? The only one I can think of is Madonna when she released Sex Book. Highly controversial, she received so much hate and was vilified. Erotica did not do that well, especially coming from one of the most successful eras for a pop artist with Vogue, Immaculate Collection and Blonde Ambition. But then she released Bedtime Stories, earned her one of her biggest hits of all time with Take a Bow, had a hugely successful movie with Evita, and had the critics and public on her side again. Madonna then released American Life, was slammed by the media and the public. And again after having a huge Y2K era, she flopped. A few years later she released COAD and had one of the biggest hits of the 2000s and her career. Again she was loved by the critics and public. 3

laqqinq Posted November 1 Posted November 1 (edited) Taylor Swift? I was too young during her 1989 and Reputation eras but when I read on some of the stuff that happened online, in the media, among the GP—public perception of her, her image, etc. It all seems like it was a big thing/media frenzy. So I guess she was considered 'cancelled' at the time. But maybe it was different in a way because of her big big, huuuuge fanbase? Regardless, Taylor got much, MUCH MORE than "uncancelled". She pulled a uno reverse, from being "cancelled" to "biggest", "unescapable", "dominant", "powerful", and "beloved" (ofc not always, but to some extent). Edited November 1 by laqqinq 5

Love4Janet Posted November 1 Posted November 1 Janet Les Moonves, Viacom, and Clear Channel teamed up to try to ruin her, but Janet ultimately prevailed. Damita Jo sold over 3 million copies worldwide despite being Janet being blacklisted on MTV, VH1, CBS, and on most radio stations. Feedback went Platinum. She was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And she just wrapped up the highest grossing tour of her career. Meanwhile, Les Moonves is a disgraced and unemployed sex pest and Viacom is hemorrhaging money. Janet won. 6
