Popular Post DevilsRollTheDice Posted November 1, 2024 Popular Post Posted November 1, 2024 (edited) Sure, it's no Anti-Hero or Cruel Summer but dunking on a multi-week number 1 that'll pass 1 billion streams around a year after its release isn't the drag y'all think it is. Performed fine. Let's check in on Taylor's 2000s peers' lead singles and see how they did. Edited November 1, 2024 by DevilsRollTheDice 29 1
Badgalbriel Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 After 6 months? That sounds about right for a song that's not a hit 1
Goaty Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Love her (and the album!) but that song is bad 3 4
LosingHimWasBlue Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Because Halloween bomb. watch for tomorrow or the next 2 days, this song would re-enter.
JoJo Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Taylor hasn't been a singles artist since 1989. Cruel Summer and Anti-Hero are the exceptions. but that's fine because Taylor doesn't need to have smash singles to sell albums.
Eternal220 Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 probably has to do with her endorsing kamala. not all popstars like to straddle the fence to avoid offending the masses.

BellKat Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Well, the song is not a hit so one could say it had a healthy run in the charts despite that...

I know standarts are pretty high for her but IDWLF (1.7B) Lover (1.6B) Cardigan (1.5B) August (1.3B) Don't Blame Me (1.3B) LWYMMD (1.2B + Diamond) are hits that would be considered as such for any other artist. Songs don't have to smash directly or debut high to become hits. Edited November 1, 2024 by WildHeart 11 3
JennyWayne Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Because at least 200 songs received more streams yesterday 1
Popular Post wish Posted November 1, 2024 Popular Post Posted November 1, 2024 A total of ZERO smashes from TTPD. Nobody expected this level of underperformance 3 14 2
State of Grace. Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Deserved Anti-hero's success. It continues to baffle me how the GP always gets it wrong with her... 4 2 1

Just my opinion, but I hate the name of the song, and I think a lot of people don't understand what it means. The video of Lisa Barlow from RHOSLC singing, "and for the fourth night there we were..." lives rent free in my mind. People are so dumb lol 1

I disagree, the debut stats say far more about Taylor's untouchable star power and interest than the song itself. Its total stats are decent and it's recurrent stats are fine, too. Not everything has to be Anti-Hero to be successful. Regardless of her obvious celebrity aura, she's still a woman in her mid-30s who debuted in 2006. Multiple weeks at number 1 and a billion+ streams should be viewed as a major success for anyone with 18 years in the game. Just because she's capable of more doesn't mean that should be overlooked.
