so, this is important.

I'm a very cautious person and would like to start PrEP. I'm seeing a new guy, and we are not exclusive. I don't trust no *****, not even my shadow.

I still plan on seeing this macho man. Would you go on it? are you on it?

was on it several years ago...never had any issues or side effects.

It's not bad to use but just know it won't protect you against other STD's like Herpes, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, etfc.

okay but I am not exclusive with him though. I do want to bone him badly. so this is something I would get checked and under control every month.

My wife doesn't feel comfortable with me taking prep.

I actually asked my primary to put me on Truvada two weeks ago after all my tests came back good :skull: I don't even have sex like that anymore, so they've been sitting on my nightstand only because I'm lowkey scared of the side effects I've read up on.

either way tho, they say you have to take it for at least 7 days to be effective, or there's the 2:1:1 thing the gays are raving about that I wouldn't even bother….way too risky.

read up about DoxyPep if you worry about STDs as well.

Yes, was on oral PrEP for multiple years and 1 year ago switched to injectible PrEP.

The injections have ******* side effects, I would really recommend starting with oral instead. I felt terrible the first 2-3 injections (like could barely get out of bed), injections are once every 2 months and the side effects have definitely gotten better since as time went on but even as of this week I had another dose and here I am three days later feeling a decent bit of soreness.

I'm considering going back on oral PrEP at this point, I just cannot see myself fully getting used to the side effects of injectible PrEP.

will look into this. my body tolerates all kinds of meds quite well so I might give them a chance. everyone take care!

Yes I am - I only had side effects the very first day I took prep, it gave me headaches and make me ache that night (the doctor told me to "quick start" it so you take 2 straight away, and then one daily henceforth). However, never had a problem taking it daily for over a year now. I have a mandatory blood and STI test every 3 months as part of my prescription so they ensure it's not affecting me  negatively (this is standard for anyone on PReP in New Zealand)

wait why was I told that you only do this if you need instant effectiveness? I.e. can't wait to raw dog and need it the same day, so you take 2, have sex, and then start taking 1 per day from then on out? the 2:1:1 deal

I'm a tad confused about the 2:1:1 deal. let me check.

I guess it is if you want to get down and dirty like within the next day or so, otherwise you need to wait 7 days for it to be fully entrenched or what not. I guess she just thought I was a h*e and needed to get into it pronto

It's the same principal, it's just that you're taking it on a per-sex basis. Like "I know I'm going to have a date/hook-up on Friday, so I will take prep just for that" but then if you're more the type to be having spontaneous sex, daily PReP makes more sense.

:deadbanana: I see what you mean tho, hm idk I still wouldn't trust it.

also I started reading Reddit threads about break-out cases even on PrEP and that has literally shaken me to the bones, idk.

considering i'm as much of a hoe as I am (what I post on the "last time you had sex?" thread is kind of only highlights lol) I should be on it, but at the same time I rarely do penetrative sex

and when I DO have penetrative sex, if they're amab or trans masc, the other person always happens to either be on prep or be an undetectable person on dovato lol. I mean I know these aren't great reasons for me to not be on it, but I also am not thrilled about monthly blood tests, I'm trying to be on as few meds as possible (I'm currently on vyvanse, wellbutrin, clonidine, and am FINALLY tapering down on lamictal after we found out that I was erroneously diagnosed with bipolar disorder :grump: so I'll be completely off it about a month from now I think), and I just don't think I really need it for the kind of sexual activities I tend to have. not trying to jinx anything of course, but idk. I might go on it eventually if i do plan on having suddenly more penetrative sex. I get tested regularly too :gaycat2: i'm fortunate to be in a community where people are not only sex positive but are more and more transparent when it comes to their status every year

oh but I also have some emergency doxypep in my medicine closet lol
