I'm not trying to hate on him he's a straight man who has no idea what being a woman or being marginalised is like. It's just annoying when people who criticise him for this are painted as stans who are mad he gave their fave a bad review. Halsey is not my fave but there's a pattern with this and stuff like his review of ftbc where he just doesn't get it. In fact women creating art about their specific experiences seems to make him uncomfortable at times. All of this. But when I said this before, the twitter stans would rush in and "but he gave brat 10/10!!!1 you just mad bladbladblad" All he does is playing the stan wars game and give some stans ammunition, while cleverly trying to hide his misogyny. But it's always sipping out of him all the times. Edited October 30 by Rep2000 6
Fancyhoodlum Posted October 30 Posted October 30 as a fellow baldie Im glad for his popularity but his opinions are worthless as he's got no credibility.

That's why it has been so extreme between 10s and 1. In this case he chose to be a contrarian since it's clear the album made him feel uncomfortable listening to a woman lamenting her chronic illness. Edited October 30 by Rep2000 4
HealerKirby Posted October 30 Posted October 30 This is just unnecessarily cruel Ever since he suddenly switched on Chappell's album once she got famous, I could never trust his reviews anymore tbh
AvadaKedavra Posted October 30 Posted October 30 (edited) I honestly don't get the hype around this guy. He lacks perspective when it comes to pop music, though he does have a better understanding of hip hop-rock and similar genres dominated by men. However, that's where it ends. I don't find him funny—in fact, there's something unsettling about him, which I think contributed to his divorce. He has that "Mr. Beast" "Incel" vibe, giving off a strange aura, the way he comes about some female singers sometimes is awful and his fashion sense could be better. So 2011-pretentious jack antonoff hipster coded. I remember how someone also exposed some of his "alt right" antics in the past. He lacks sophistication...but americans love to glamorize some strange figures lately There are far better reviewers on YouTube, like Jon Denton (Far Hotter), Ajay, Todd,Beards and Brians and others...... have a list of like 100+ . With him it feels like is more about the personality than the music. I dislike how much influence-power he has in pop music spaces; Im totally sure so many of the popgals are not pleased with him. Why are we giving him the spotlight? can we post different people and POC too? i feel the same about Pitchfork. I feel bad for Halsey. Her album is beautiful and honest and doesn't deserve the hate it's receiving cause we all know its a great project. I wasn't a big fan before, but this album really resonated with me. It must have been incredibly difficult for her to open up like that, only to have some critics mock it. (Glad its a minority) Seeing a straight man downplay the experiences of a queer, chronically ill woman feels wrong-icky to me. Lemme go and stream her beautiful record and buy another copy of it Edited October 30 by AvadaKedavra 3
GentleDance Posted October 30 Posted October 30 The impersonation gimmick was great marketing, but that was bound to backfire
piotrert Posted October 30 Posted October 30 whatever about score, he can think whatever he wants, but he is just cruel to her, straight up a piece of sh*t
BabyBenzz Posted October 30 Posted October 30 why does anyone care about this random fvcck, does this **** get added to metacritic?
Digitalism Posted October 30 Posted October 30 It seems a like incels hate this too. But you can even see it in the review. They are not talking about the music they are talking about her personally and who she works with. As I already said this will gain respect retrospectively.
Feanor Posted October 30 Posted October 30 ATRL's continued obsession with highlighting the opinions of this clown. 1
Bookmark99 Posted October 30 Posted October 30 he spilled although I would maybe give it a 3 seriously there is nothing special about this album...sonically or lyrically with all that dress up that she did you would expect something amazing...If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power was a better album than this one 1
Peak Now Posted October 30 Posted October 30 Anthony "theneedledrop" Fantano recently reviewed Halsey's latest studio album, The Great Impersonator. He didn't like it and gave it a 1/10, perhaps mainly because he found it to be too self-victimizing: Quote Why does every goddamn song sound like it's being written from the perspective of some troubled girl character? Quote This entire record has the worst case of main character syndrome I've heard on any pop album in 2024. Quote ...it seems like Halsey is just hellbent on making sure the audience knows how dark and tortured and edgy she is. Since Halsey has been rather vocal about her battle with leukemia and almost dying prior to this album's release, many are now lashing Fantano for his insensitive comments, from Twitter to AOTY to even his own comment section. Quote "Main character syndrome" she was literally battling leukemia, brother The choice of words in this review just came to me as arrogant and insensitive Quote It's his worst review ever. I don't care if he didn't like the music, who cares what he's taste in music is, but to call the lyrics on that album main character syndrome is just ******* crazy. Halsey is recounting how she almost died of leukemia and opening up about all of her traumas, and then he reduces it to a bunch of secondary characters? It's ridiculous that someone who sympathized with Ethel Cain's tweet that she was afraid her honest story would be treated as a joke on the internet, and even made a video of it, would do the exact same thing. Quote Giving this album a 1/10 is hyperbolic beyond reason and I didn't even like the record, but it's just a review, it's all good. However, to call her singing about her cancer battle "main character syndrome" is just a massive red flag for something else I'm not equipped or certified to speak on. Just really gross. Haven't really seen something that unnecessarily cruel or unempathetic from you ever and I've been watching for a long-ass time. Lowkey I don't think I've ever seen his own YouTube comment section lash him this hard... has Fantano finally gone too far? 1 3
Sheep Posted October 30 Posted October 30 (edited) He's a clown. Stop giving him the attention he's fishing for and he'll go away. This is the guy who panned both BTW and MBDTF for clicks. He got into movie reviews just to antagonize little monsters. He's basically an ATRL user stop treating him like he matters and he'll stop mattering. Edited October 30 by Sheep 8 2
The7thStranger Posted October 30 Posted October 30 He got dragged hard for his review of Glass Animals - Dreamland, but this is pretty rough yeah.

Cheers Posted October 30 Posted October 30 Aren't you supposed to feel like the main character in YOUR own album and in YOUR own life? Lol 11
Yog Posted October 30 Posted October 30 His worst take in a VERY long time it's one thing to call the album pretentious/misleading or not liking the sound of it but calling her songwriting egocentric and edgy when she's venting about abuse and almost dying of cancer is just awful 4 2
Kylizzle Posted October 30 Posted October 30 Why are men so angry about this album / Halsey in general I feel like she reminds every music guy of one of their exes or something 3 4
D.Va Posted October 30 Posted October 30 It's one thing to think that Halsey has tried, all throughout her career, a little too hard lyrically which can ultimately lead to some listeners not being able to connect with the song (its an impression I talked about in the album thread and I feel like it's valid). However, you crossed a whole different line when you invalidate someone's struggles ESPECIALLY considering what Halsey went through. His review is just distasteful. 6

I fear there are people out there who treat his word as gospel anyhow there are many examples of album scores on RYM/AOTY tanking after Fantano gives a negative review 2
piotrert Posted October 30 Posted October 30 predicting what will happen. he will make second video, doubling down, his stans will suck his dick off, other people will be even more riled up, engagement going up, he is making more money, eventually everyone moves one, because of 24h news cycle. best to just ignore this loser 3

It's so nauseating and makes bad actors like him a little too powerful if given a platform. 1
