Timeless Posted October 27 Posted October 27 (edited) Think about it. Many artists barely do any promo anymore and instead they just rely on the TikTok algorithm in hopes that their new song trends. Many artists also do not make music videos anymore because the views on YouTube are so low (due to TikTok's popularity) and they barely make any profit from it. Music videos do nothing to help the song on the charts like it did before. If TikTok was banned, this would eliminate all these issues and more. Girlies would have to start promoting their sh*t again like it's the 2010s again. Talk show interviews, tv appearances, performances, high budget music videos. Promo tactics that would get the audience engaged in the artist. The music industry would thrive again. Edited October 27 by Timeless 1
fridayteenage Posted October 27 Posted October 27 they're not going to magically increase their attention span. they'd just turn to YouTube Shorts or whatever. 1
Virgos Groove Posted October 27 Posted October 27 (edited) It would get worse since everyone would flock to IG Reels. They're only now discovering Espresso there. Edited October 27 by Virgos Groove 7
A Million Lights Posted October 27 Posted October 27 No. We would go back to the time that radio fodder songs like Happy, Cheerleader and 7 Years would thrive. A least some good songs become successful due to TT
raisetheroof Posted October 27 Posted October 27 It's not like TikTok going away would take away the market for short-form content IG reels or some other platform would just take its' place and the effect on the music industry would be the same
aotwbys Posted October 27 Posted October 27 The music industry needs to quit it with the TikTok trends. General public are only interested in Taylor Swift rn. I go into my local store and it's a bunch of randoms and then boom, a whole shelf of Taylor's discography. I don't get it but the market has spoken
Polgg48 Posted October 27 Posted October 27 lose control still in top 10 in any circumstance with/without tik tok, imagine that genre in among full top 40 on industry full control.
LittleStarmen Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Yes, in the long term yes Because unfortunatelly being an artist became being a tiktoker
Phaunzie Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Not, the industry would become even more scummy and fraudulent. I think people forget the level of chart manipulation that happened in the 2000s and early 2010s. 1
modeblock Posted October 27 Posted October 27 hello NO. thanks to tiktok we've had multiple pop justice moments, including Kate Bush's mega smash and Gimme More being pushed into her top 3. Not to mention, the unknowns that have gained quick popularity boosts, and then we have someone like Sabrina who languished in khia-dom for a decade until she blew up on tiktok. 1
