Antikythera Posted October 27 Posted October 27 (edited) "Everyone says that love Is a friend of madness, but for me, who is already crazy, It's the only thing that heals me" Continuing the pop history series about Raffaella Carra, this 1978 song was pushing the limits once more. "Tanti Auguri" gained a Spanish version called "Hay que venir al sur" - which could have a double meaning, "you have to come down south" or "you have to CUM down south". For a Italian singer, this was not received so well by the Catholic church. For quite sometimes Raffaella got in trouble with the Pope. First with her hit 1969 song "Tuca tuca" (touch touch) a song about a game of "touching each other". So, some people believed her to be the devil's friend. The lyrics puts Raffaella in the first person, talking about how "she had loads of experiences" and that she got to understand "where there isn't hate and war, love becomes king" she goes on to say "life without lovers is a living hell" and if the women got dumped, they just should find someone else "as long as you do what gives u pleasure". "I found out that after innocence is lost, life is much better when u come down south." This song was a massive hit in Spanish speaking countries. She was also her own choreographer, she brought her trade mark "head banging move" to this song also. Full lyrics translation: Quote Just in case the world ends I must take advantage of all the time Wanderer's heart I'm seeking my freedom I've traveled the Earth And I've realized that Where there's no hatred or war Love becomes king I've had many experiences And I've come to the conclusion That once innocence is lost Life is better in the south (Chorus) To make love right You must go south To make love right I'll go where you are Without lovers Who can console themselves? Without lovers This life is hell To make love right You must go south The important thing is that you do it With whomever you want And if they leave you Don't think about it anymore Find someone better Fall in love again Everyone says that love Is a friend of madness But for me, who is already crazy It's the only thing that heals me How many times unconsciousness Breaks with vulgarity We will overcome resistances To love each other more and more I've had many experiences And I've come to the conclusion That once innocence is lost Life is better in the south (Chorus) Find someone better Fall in love again Find someone better Fall in love again So do u agree with her? TheBoss Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Once I was in love with a guy from the north of my country (i'm from the south) and dedicated it to him in a drunkkaraoe night, the second hand embarrasment lol
Katygato Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I've always thought "come down south" meant oral sex. 1 1
Jeremiah Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Is that a censored version on the video? Because those are NOT the lyrics I know

Because those are NOT the lyrics I know There are two Spanish versions, one is censored, the video I posted is the censored one, the lyrics translation I posted is the uncensored. Here is the uncensored: it seems a lot of her songs had a censored version, even the choreography, some performances she won't go all the way down when talking about "going down south". I think it can mean oral and anal, on the second verse she talks about vulgarity and overcome taboo so "we can love more and more". I don't know if vulgarity means the same as in Portuguese, but for me vulgar indicates more of raunchy kinky stuff, I don't think oral was so taboo even then, but maybe it was. I think she also wanted to reach the gays since she was surrounded by them and some think she was also part of the community. Edited October 27 by Antikythera 1

ArtForFreedom Posted October 27 Posted October 27 She had some bops in her time.. may she continue to rest in peace

Even on the performance side of things, for me she was much more accomplished dancer. 1
Princess Aurora Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Iconic. People still sing this song at parties, events, clubs, etc... in Italy

Actually, I never thought of "venir al sur" as a double entry since the song was already explicit enough and it's not really an expression in Spanish like it is in English. For me she literally meant to move to the south of a given country lmao. I just read the lyrics in Italian and she sings (rough translation) "How beautiful to make love from Trieste down". Trieste is a city in the north of Italy. She then also sings "in the countryside and the city". So it seems to me the song is just about f*cking everywhere (with everyone). Hedonism hymn. There's evidently lyrical differences with the Spanish version (maybe due to keep the syllables and phonetics intact), but overall it stays true to the original. This and "Caliente Caliente" are such horny but feel-good anthems. I feel for the angloparlantes for not knowing this queen.
