Parachutes Posted October 27 Posted October 27 (edited) Released on October 27th, 2014, Taylor Swift's 1989 represented her full embrace of pop music and propelled her to new heights. Inspired by the sounds of the 80s, the album's title was also chosen to represent a symbolic rebirth for Taylor. It became her 3rd consecutive release to debut with over a million album sales in its first week, and generated 3 #1 singles (Shake It Off, Blank Space, and Bad Blood) and two other top-ten hits (Style and Wildest Dreams). Its monumental success netted Taylor her second Album of the Year win at 2016 Grammys. What are your thoughts on the album and its era a decade later? Edited October 27 by Parachutes 4
itshyolee Posted October 27 Posted October 27 It low key kinda aged for me, but Style and Wildest Dreams remain perfect and timeless 1 1
nostalgic Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Her pop bible, my favorite Taylor album a pop stan's wet dream when you think about it.
Klein Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Excellent album. As the NYT said: "With 1989, Taylor Swift is aiming at a mode of timelessness that few true pop stars ever even bother aspiring to." Not in the better half of her discography for me, but that's because I'm not drawn to her pure pop stuff as much as I am her country/folk/indie endeavors. Spoiler Everyone constantly drags the song and for good reason overall, but the opening synths on Welcome To New York is a religious experience everytime I start the album. It just instantly brings you in the mood. 2
Wicked Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I really did not like this album when released... That's when I started checking out of her new releases and put them in the get to it when I get to it bag. Style still (mostly... enough James Dean references ffs name somebody else) dope though.
youngpopariana Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I'm not always keen on Ms. Swift but 1989 was a MOMENT in the musical landscape. One of the last grandiose pop eras ! Give her her 10s 1
Poxy Posted October 27 Posted October 27 So amazing… will never forget watching the Yahoo announcement live 2
HolyKatyPerry Posted October 27 Posted October 27 One of the best pop albums from that era. So many songs from this album are pop perfection to me
mike_int Posted October 27 Posted October 27 It is truly great album. Her best to date and I don't think she will ever top that.
roso Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Her breakthrough album here in France I was soooo obsessed with this era for two years straight, I don't play it nearly as much but it's still a great body of work
KatyPrismSpirit Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I was CRAZY obsessed with this album in middle school. Like crazy obsessed. My first English language CD ever and I still listen to it today. Truly an amazing album 3

Le Grande Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Apart from Style and Wildest Dreams (thank you Lana) it's mostly watered-down dreck.
Sailor Moon Posted October 27 Posted October 27 the day the pop bible was released witnessing her transition into a full pop star was a moment. the music, videos, outfits, tour, media press, virality, charts were in the palm of her hand in a perfect way.
wigglytuffer Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Insane how she's tried to re-market this as a beachy, summer album when it's so clearly an 'autumn, new school year etc, big city' album. Thank you Taylor for providing me with my staple song whenever i fly into JFK 🤓 1
mael Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Iconic, legendary, Herstory that gave us classics like Blank Space and Style.
