genio Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I agree with a lot of it, but I would put Janet third, right behind Madonna and Mariah. Her run of hits and classic albums was insane in the 80s and 90s, she went in with a bang into the 2000s as well. I think it's sad that the Superbowl incident had so much effect on her career, when it comes to singles at least, since airplay was still a huge factor in 2004 and they seemed to have blacklisted/blocked her from getting any airplay. There were so many hits with big potential like Call On Me, All Nite and Feedback. Those are still hits, but they could've been huge Janet classics if it wasn't for the Superbowl effect.
Princess Aurora Posted October 27 Posted October 27 (edited) I agree but after Mariah and Madonna Edited October 27 by Princess Aurora
KKKIMO92 Posted October 31 Posted October 31 People really forgot how big she was. Her concerts used to be so so loud that everyone is just grateful by her immaculate presence. Without the superbowl, she surely will have a few more successful eras and will be able to collect hits till 10s. Damita Jo was already posed to be a bigger debut than AFY and it has some sure fire hits like All nite and I want you.

Control -> Rhythm Nation-> Janet -> Velvet Rope is one of the best 1-2-3-4 punch for pop/R&B music ever. As far as hit-making goes though only Rihanna rivals Madonna on that front. Janet has the longest run of top 10 hits in the hot 100 for any solo artist though. She was a hit-making machine.
