Doctor Dick
Popularity rate means how LONG a user listens to a song, not how many listeners it has. It's the same for TikTok. Viral videos there go viral not for the amount of likes but based on if it's watched in full or replayed. Paris Hilton is a billionaire and released an album where she even bought the copies herself to inflate its first week sales. If money was able to put someone on top of TTH she would've easily done it but she didn't. I can't at these excuses when there's a clear reason why some songs are added and others aren't. Every time a song has a popularity rate after its first update of above 70% it gets pushed by Spotify and whenever a song gets below 70% they aren't. These are just some examples of songs and their popularity rate before they were added to #1 on TTH: Beyoncé - Texas Hold Em (77%) Billie Eilish - Birds Of A Feather (80%) Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars - Die With A Smile (80%) Rosé and Bruno Mars - Apt. (76%) Lady Gaga - Disease (74%) And songs that had below 70% on the day of their premiere: Katy Perry - Woman's World (51%) Jennifer Lopez - Can't Get Enough (48%) Katy Perry - Lifetimes (68%) Justin Timberlake - Selfish (63%) I know "payola" is thrown around from stanbases that are fuming but it's always been about more than just money. You think Capitol wouldn't have thrown money on Spotify rather than a music video for Katy Perry if they knew that was the game? C'mon guys. Don't be stupid. 3 2 1

As far as I'm aware there is no such thing as Spotify payola It's more that the major labels literally own a chunk of Spotify so they have sway when it comes to playlisting

And it's not about flopping, it's about how well-received a song is. Two different things. A song can flop after being on TTH because not enough people click on it and listen to it or click on it but don't spend enough time or skip it which makes the song lose the TTH placement. But show me one instance where a song with an initial -70 has been picked up by TTH? You can't because there is none. Songs that are added to the playlist all have above 70 when they do. I'm not saying it's the only factor but it's definitely not payola because then any artist could've done it. Addison Rae does not have more money than Katy Perry lmfao. Blairbear
Edit: Decided to visit this thread for the first time and jesus, some of you need to go outside and spend time with friends/ family or at least do some self-care because a song is not worth the dramatics, the arguing, and the meltdowns. No one outside of pop music forums give a **** about this kind of stuff. And the level of trolling by OGHs in this threat is so bad that surely it's an insult to their own intelligence. With the level of fighting, insults, and bullying, I have no idea why this thread has not been locked. I've seen threads with less nastiness being locked. OT: The music video now has 6.5 million views, I'm hoping it'll reach 7 million soon Edited 13 hours ago by Blairbear

MatiRod
1 hour ago, OrgVisual said: How is that any different than payola? It's public knowledge and blatantly obvious if you look at who gets playlisted, whereas payola was behind the scenes and shady and illegal. The problem is the amount of music that's out there now. There is too much choice. So Spotify relies on existing relationships with labels to narrow down the choice of tracks to playlist. Every day almost 100,000 songs are uploaded to Spotify. If you're a Spotify editor looking to add tracks to your playlist in a certain genre, you're contending with literally thousands of new songs every single week being pitched via Spotify for Artists (which anyone can do). There is just no way to physically listen to every single song. Labels act as an initial funnel through which Spotify knows it's getting a certain level of quality (just like in terms of the production and mastering and such) and usually a certain level of relevance (or at least potential relevance since they're people already plugged into the industry). Is it fair? Maybe not. Is it good news for independent artists trying on their own? No. But it's an industry not a charity. Not to be shady. But it was this to the 1000x level just 10 years ago when you needed to be on TV and radio to attain any level of success. At least now indie artists can go viral on TikTok and there's tons of successful artists who tour and stuff without ever getting major playlist action. It's a more even playing field nowadays. Playlisting is just one of the last gatekeeping funnels that exist. But as we're seeing with this song, no shade, it's not even that impactful anymore. Radio/autoplay is much more important lol. Tistotal
How big should be the boost we can expect for tomorrow's update? since it's now #1 in TTH and its playlisting reach increased to 148M (+8M since yesterday). Just to compare, last TTH cover was APT and it was doing 11.25M, can we expect at least a half of it?
