Lady Gaga is an artist who is almost 20 years into her career and, while she has a core base of hardcore queer fans, seems to fade in and out of wider public consciousness (ie she's not an artist like Taylor who is currently guaranteed to have hit with whatever she puts out). To get a hit, she either needs to put something out that can be radio driven (Shallow, Die With a Smile) or something that starts a cultural conversation (the last time she had this was probably Rain On Me and the Ariana collab factor). Disease did neither of those things. Still a good song though and I'm excited for the album! Gaga is here to stay whether or not she's smashing commercially

I'm side eyeing at the amount of stans saying it was a "bad song" when those initial rating threads were filled with 11/10 reviews and it was being praised left and right, maybe they just got ahead of themselves lol.

 

I believe I said at the time "her fans will love it but the GP is gonna pay it little mind" and that seems to have been accurate, the only person I know IRL who really championed the song was also the guy who has a framed chromatica oreo on his wall, so that tracks.

To think that Gaga and her team thought that Disease would be a hit and they released it as a lead single is beyond sad..  I recalled it when it was released- in two weeks it will be as if Gaga had not released a new single.  Its not a bad song, just a cute album track.

Tbf Amazon is the way some artists cheat to chart on singles chart in UK, for example p!nk is best example of payola, her singles were nowhere to be found on spotify and apple but somehow charting in top 40 and charting for weeks thanks to shady amazon numbers.

The GP isn't here for WeirdPopGa. She really needs to find a way to blend what her gay fans want from her with what the GP wants to continue to remain relevant musically. If this era is her Witness/BJ then it will be tough for LG8. She really needs to go back and reinvent herself for LG7.

This song is just quite loud and aggressive. The melody isn't catchy but it's not trying to be. She's different now. This is less like something from The Fame Monster and more like a follow-up to Perfect Illusion
