UrMom Posted October 26 Posted October 26 I have too much nostalgia for all these albums, it's really hard to compare. Caution is a 12/10 and stomps on everything. Honestly my favorite album of the 2010s, period. Me. I Am...Mariah was great. I think Memoirs is super underrated. One of her best. E-MC2 is messy but a lot of fun. Madge's albums were all very messy but I kind of love them Hard Candy felt like the perfect companion to Confessions. Very polished, some tracks were behind the trends, some were ahead of them. MDNA was an undercooked mess in terms of production but I actually like most of the songs themselves. If they sounded like finished songs instead of demos, it would be better. I still use it way more than the other girls' releases from this time, except 4 and 21, which are a cut above the rest. Rebel Heart was overstuffed and had too many different directions but most of the songs have GORGEOUS melodies. Also the leaks hurt things a lot, cause they made a lot of unnecessary changes for the final release. Madame X is excellent. Challenging but excellent. She was really firing on all cylinders that era, it's a shame ATRL seems to hate it. She experimented with a lot of new sounds here, and it felt like it achieved a nice halfway point between her '92-'03 experimental years and her trend-chasing latter years.
Oceania Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Einsten - Too pop and trendy for me. Not my cup of tea Memoirs - if it weren't for its messy production and Mariah's wornout tone, it could've been one of her best albums imo. Elusive - the songs are actually good on their own for the most part but, together, they make a disjointed and directionless album. Caution - a very good album. Candy - I guess I'm not into the late 10's pop/rnb trend. MDNA - electropop from the early 10's remains one of the worst trends in pop music history imo. Rebel - Super forgettable. I only remember Madonna's robotic vocals. X - As a "World music" listener myself, I enjoy this one slightly better. it remains a subpar attempt tho. Caution is the only album I save.
Chris Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Another Madonna vs. Mariah thread to get us started with the holiday family drama. Let the fun begin people. I hope someone throws a turkey or a Christmas tree at someone. 1
Chris Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I can't say Caution is not all that since it was never that to begin with.

This song alone tops whatever the hell Madonna was releasing 3 hours ago, -mUsIcLoVeR- said: Caution alone clears! no L I T E R A L L Y #Beautiful needs to be considered a classic more broadly because it's genuinely one of the most gorgeous pop songs ever created, it's exactly as good as many motown classics like You're All I Need to Get By and Be My Baby and I am deadass serious. it's pop perfection to the highest degree lmao. I feel like the only reason it wouldn't usually be placed up there with motown classics is because it trendily made use of a hashtag in the title and as for Caution? a pop bible, plain and simple
JoeAg Posted October 28 Posted October 28 I may be biased cause I'm finally a lamb who recently issued a stan card but Mariah's albums in general are better than Madonna's sure Mariah never went as bizarre and leftfield as Ray of Light for a full album but quality-wise... like let's not lie. Mariah's discography is REALLY something else
Loca Posted October 28 Posted October 28 Hard Candy and MDNA are good. Mariah never released a good album. Easy choice.
Loca Posted October 28 Posted October 28 The second question in the OP was really not necessary, by the way 1
