BionicWooHoo Posted October 26 Posted October 26 (edited) The general public does not always have taste, they are afraid of the avant-garde. Which is why there are so many pop gurlies who are afraid of changing their sound lest they offend the suburban facebook minion memes posting soccer moms of America. Personally, I would rather them be experimental and flop because I'd rather my fave be having fun playing with genres. Also I don't live vicariously through pop divas' streaming stats. Discuss. BrattyBottom Posted October 26 Posted October 26 I don't have a fave like some of you do with your weird parasocial relationships but artistry over charts always.
Luckitty Posted October 26 Posted October 26 would i be able to pay the bills with my experimental flop music? 4 1
Onyxmage Posted October 26 Posted October 26 (edited) Id rather they release good music regardless of it being experimental or basic. This entire poll is a LIE though especially with how chart obsessed this forum is. Edited October 26 by Onyxmage
havewemet Posted October 26 Posted October 26 I think a true artist sticks around long enough to do both. A flop era is kind of necessary to create a comeback storyline but only a great artist knows how to capitalize on that goodwill. And of course you probably need a couple successful eras before you flop otherwise people will see you as a one hit wonder.
wastedpotential Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Not you pretending Taylor hasn't flopped with experimental music 2
HausOfPunk Posted October 26 Posted October 26 If the music is genuinely good, I don't care how it does on the charts. 1
SweetTalker Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Mmm the only way I can answer this is by using Tinashe as an example. I'd rather have more Talk To Me Nice type of dongs, than another Nasty 2
Minto Posted October 26 Posted October 26 i feel like we all know what it feels like to pretend to like one of your faves smash hits even though it's shjte. if they flop i really don't gaf, give me something to chew on.
TipToe Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Id rather see some sort of evolution. There's a place for experimentation and for being basic... the result may be out of control either way, nothing is a guarantee but as long as there's quality and a logic to things it's okay.
Kiss It Better Posted October 26 Posted October 26 then there's basic and flop Spoiler without saying names i know we all think of one name 1
RussianRoulette Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Tho of my faves are Fka and Bjork. Even Rihanna's last album is anything but basic. I like when artist have fun and try new things. 1
aesthetic bih Posted October 26 Posted October 26 (edited) Experimental especially if they stood the test of time Trendy popular hits have a high risk of getting forgotten after like 20 years so NO MAAM Edited October 26 by aesthetic bih
Soda Pop Queen Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Some artists know how to walk the fine line between being both really experimental and accessible. It's a rarity. As long as the music is good and the artist is genuinely happy with what they put out in the world.
Jump Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Experimental and flop but only if they have a proven track record of smashing in the past. Being basic and flopping is tragic though. A 143 tea
