(You Drive Me) Crazy is the superior BOMT single

So we know ...Baby One More Time is more iconic as a pop culture staple with a video that's inspired countless tributes and parodies, but I think the video became bigger than the song in a way. (You Drive Me) Crazy on the other hand is very clearly the better pop song with one of Britney's most infectious melodies that highlights her overall skill as a performer. When I go back to the video, I always think that this is the Britney everyone fell in love with. BOMT flounders a bit on replay value and can even be quite annoying while YDMC is something that actually sounds even better with every listen.

This goes for the album version too :ryan3:

honest question, why users here love to downplay bomt, just for the sake of being a contrarian?

im always reading that oops is better, that this or that song is superior, etc...

BTMYH = BOMT > Sometimes > YDMC > FTBOMBH

So no, not really.

Intellectuals would agree and make a case for the album version though

Honestly, for many reasons. No other pop artist has had a more impactful song than that, since then (all metrics combined). A moment where an entire generation know all the lyrics by heart (not just the chorus). Where the video and the looks are iconic (legitimately iconic, not "internet" iconic). Also, so many have tried to recreate this lightning in a bottle moment, all around the world, and never quite got it right (in spite of some succesful/good attempts).

Because of all of these reasons the qualities of the song are often diminished, but make no mistake, this is a MONSTER of a tune. If pop music was a book, you would have several chapters solely dedicated to the genius of this one. Otherwise, yes, you are right, contrarianism runs rampant in our digital world, and BOMT is so "undeniable" that it's the perfect vessel for that!

I've always preferred YDMC, the far superior single. BOMT was not as catchy as YDMC.

Agreed, specifically the Stop! remix.

The Stop! Remix is pop perfection and the video is fantastic in every single way :loki:

She was so different from her peers.. the way she looked at the camera.. a reciprocally explicit love affair :flame:

Crazy is underrated, but BOMT was the perfect single choice, and it's better in every way.

Posted

No it's not. It's a 10/10 but inferior to the other singles imo.

Well, yes. The Stop! Remix is one of Britney's best songs. The album version... not so much.

As for the other singles, it goes:

YDMC > BTMYH > BOMT > Sometimes > FTBOMBH

Couldn't agree more. The best single from her debut album.

quarter note Sometimes you try (sometimes)
quarter note Sometimes you lie
quarter note Sometimes I can't with you
quarter note But all I really want is to give you sass

quarter note To beat your ass

quarter note For you to touch some grass
