Trent W Posted October 23 Posted October 23 I've seen at least 10 videos this week claiming lindsay lohan is taking some substance to look younger. 100ks of likes, the before pictures are from 2011 when she was at her worst, but the pictures claim to be from 2022, thousands of comments, everyone believes the conspiracy BS. They say people in hollywood are taking kids blood to look younger Same BS with Xtina The videos claiming Beyonce had something to do with Liam's passing. The conspiracies already of Liam knowing something and being silenced I seriously think that Tik tok and other social media are rotting people's brain We've always had stupid people but the levels of ignorance are spiking at alarming levels 3

Well I made the mistake of seeing the whole first video hoping it was some form of satire but my algo was contaminated I've always read conspiracy, 10 years ago it was entertaining and stupid. The problem right now people actually believe it and run it as fact We are talking about millions of people And before anyone says is only the US, my algo is part spanish and is just as bad 1

Jotham Posted October 23 Posted October 23 TikTok - and basically all other social media at this point - should have a fact-checker feature like Twitter's because the misinformation is getting worse and worse. 1

I never made any theories of my own, but I always knew that the ones I was reading where posted for fun. I never actually believed that [Insert Celeb Here] did x, y and z. And I don't think anyone else did. It was just for fun. The problem is this: Quote No longer Google, but social media platform TikTok is now the world's most popular search engine: nearly 40% of young people prefer the app over Google for searches, according to Google's own data. Worldwide, the app has quickly been increasing in popularity for a few years, and a 2024 report by Adobe found that two in five Americans are using it as a search engine. Now, Professor of Digitisation and Social Media Tom De Leyn (UHasselt) warns of the dangers of using TikTok as a source of information. https://www.brusselstimes.com/925953/tiktok-overtakes-google-as-most-popular-search-engine-among-gen-z Americans (I'm not sure if data about this has been published for other countries) are using TikTok as a search engine, meaning they're probably putting 100% of their trust into the results that pop up for their search term... meaning that the videos with misinformation made to farm engagement are probably the first results they see. It doesn't help that TikTok now lets you search for items of interest by putting a magnifying glass next to those things (at the top of the comment section or in users' comments themselves. I keep my TikTok use to a minimum, and never will I search for something on there. Edited October 23 by LovingDays 1
