Vixen Eyes Posted October 21 Posted October 21 (edited) I've posted in a few threads earlier tonight that my grandmother is in in the hospital right now on liquid life support. We left the house before sundown at about 7-ish pm and it's now barely past 1am. I closed my dog in my room with a window open (I may have meant to close it or not I can't remember) and when we came home she was sitting on the floor shaking. Idk if it's because of my grandmother or if she was cold (despite there being three blankets on my bed and a healing pile of laundry on the floor next to my laundry basket. I also saw a piece of one of her nails had fallen off as well. My dog doesn't usually act like this; she's very shaky and she isn't as energetic as she was earlier before we left. She's an elderly dog too so I'm worried for her too. Edit - I should clarify that she is an 8 year old Doxie UPDATE: Just now, Vixen Eyes said: UPDATE: we think that she may have just fallen off of my bed an odd way and just hurt her leg. shes getting old and isnt as spry as she used to be. Mordecai Posted October 21 Posted October 21 (edited) Trust your gut and take your dog to the vet ASAP. I don't know what the situation is with your grandma but I cannot imagine what it would be like to have to deal with the loss of her and your dog in a short space of time I had a similar situation to yours earlier this year, one of my cats was a complete homebody that never left the house (probably because he was a stray and felt so safe at home). One morning he was begging to be let out and made noises I'd never heard before. He was gone all day and in the middle of the night my brother found him just sitting outside the house which was very unusual for him, and he had puffy cheeks. We both decided to give him the night and see what he was like in the morning, and if things hadn't improved we'd take him to the vet. When I went to check on him the next morning he was gone. Please don't make the same mistake Edit: I just realised I misinterpreted your post animals do pick up on your energy yes but her behaviour does seem concerning. Did you live with your grandma and was your dog close to her? Edited October 21 by Mordecai 1 1

Please don't make the same mistake I would, but my parents dont believe in spending money on vets. She's stopped shaking now, and she's laying next to me in my arm. I'm hoping she was just tired and cold. Perhaps separation anxiety?

Keep an eye on her and show your parents the nail that fell off so they can see your concern in the flesh. Hope it's nothing serious 1
Yawn Posted October 21 Posted October 21 yes! it's not uncommon for pets to die suddenly after their owners pass away also in my own experience, our dog made a big fuss and woke everyone up in the middle of night when my grandad was passing away. he was having home care and the dog was in a totally different room, but it's significant because it meant my mother was awake and at my grandad's side when he d worded its weird tho cause he passed away quietly in his sleep so it's not like the dog even heard anything. she must have been able to ~sense~ it was happening and i think it's the same with your dog! 1
ChooseyLover Posted October 21 Posted October 21 (edited) Was her belly cold, if you managed to touch her? From what I've observed dogs really hate cold weather, mine also gets very shaky and lays down in blankets almost all day. I think it's most likely that or that she could tell it was weird there was nobody home at 1am. The nail thing doesn't necessarily have to be a cause of concern. I hope there's nothing wrong with her. It really sucks that your parents don't "believe" in vets... Kinda makes my blood boil ngl. And I'm really sorry for your grandma too, I bet the situation is really dramatic rn in your family. Hold on tight, sis. Edited October 21 by ChooseyLover 1 1

Hope it's nothing serious its not the first time her nail has fallen off either but it might have contributed to something. its been almost a year since the last time her nails were cut/filed. we havent been able to find her clippers in a while and my aunt usually does the pet grooming. 8 hours ago, ChooseyLover said: Was her belly cold, if you managed to touch her? Hold on tight, sis. she fell asleep cuddled up in my arm last night. when i woke up she was curled up in front of the window beside the bed looking out the window. she seems to be ok now. 1

She doesn't really look like she's suffering. She's not shaking as much anymore but she only drinks when I bring her bowl onto my bed. She doesn't wanna eat at all. The last thing I know she ate were some mandarin orange bits in her kibble. I googled before I gave it to her and it said it was fine as long as it's in small increments.

If you notice any signs of discomfort in your dog, it's best to avoid giving her citrus even small bites and take her to the vet. I truly hope both your dog and your grandmother feel better soon.
