Mr. Peanutbutter Posted October 26 Posted October 26 I just know this song will go awf live with guitars on the chorus 1
holyground13 Posted October 26 Posted October 26 (edited) I've seen a lot of praise for Perfect Illusion in the past few years particularly in the lead up to Disease which is still kinda wild to me because when it first came out the general consensus was disappointment, at least from what I remember. I think people wanted a bigger chorus or maybe more synths as they thought LG5 was gonna be disco. I remember really enjoying it though and I still love it though it's not one of my top favourite Gaga songs. To be fair, people were super disappointed with Stupid Love and still are 4 years later I guess the difference being that Stupid Love came off the back of A Star Is Born / Shallow whereas Perfect Illusion was the follow up to Artpop (not counting Cheek To Cheek), so people had high expectations for Perfect Illusion and wanted it to smash. State of Grace. Posted October 26 Posted October 26 (edited) The lyrics/concept (they're fine..but lazy and feel a bit AI generated, could have been more interesting) and the lack of a new melody in the bridge are what's holding it back from being a 10 to me. Still need the video for the total package. If they're saving it for Halloween... Edited October 26 by State of Grace. 2

People said it was too shouty / no melody / too brash. Keep in mind the mainstream sound at the time was chill "tropical house" a.k.a dancehall with hi-hats inspired stuff. 4
G.U.Y_Del_Rey Posted October 26 Posted October 26 (edited) Bad Romance Applause Disease Just Dance Perfect Illusion Born This Way -------------------The limbo--------------------- -------------The deepest pits of hell------------- Stupid Fad Honestly I never cared much about Gaga lyrics. The hooks, production and vocals are the most important thing for me in her music. Edited October 26 by G.U.Y_Del_Rey 3

That's a good point - I remember Britney's Glory had just come out which dabbled in that sound. People weren't ready for the slay of Perfect Illusion I guess. I'd love for it to be on a future tour set list as I didn't get to see the Joanne Tour. 1

Ohh ComposerGa This is incredible this is what i missed the most, all her albuns before Joanne had lots of layers, bg vocals. Hidden sounds you'd discover at each new listen. Joanne and Chromatica productions were basic (with some exceptions on Chroma ofc, 911 is one of her best)
Popular Post Artur Posted October 26 Popular Post Posted October 26 Apple Music UK 7. Lady Gaga - "Disease" (+1) / new peak 12 3
Popular Post NickARTPOP Posted October 26 Popular Post Posted October 26 This feels like her "made it" moment tbh. This song is great. It might do really well, it might not. But everyone loves her and respects her and will continue to no matter what. This feels like an artist at the peak of her craft and with a complete understanding of herself. I love it, I'm excited to explore this with her. 17
aesthetic bih Posted October 26 Posted October 26 People keep complaining about the lyrics being basic and feels AI generated but I think that makes the song more easier to memorize. It makes it easier for the song to get into the GP's mind. Especially they don't spam the song like we Liddos do.
Bethenny Frankel Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Bad Romance Born This Way Disease Just Dance Perfect Illusion Applause Stupid Love
Cruel Summer Posted October 26 Posted October 26 The way this gif is perfect for this song, like she's DISGUSTED with that SICK Disease beat 2
Relampago. Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Schtupit Lauv was horrible, like really really bad, unlistenable if you will Perfect Illusion was unexpected so it disappointed at first but it ended up aging nicely 3
Azealia Banks Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Lets hope that with the video we get single cds and all that 1

Starting to think everybody still doesn't get who LADY GAGA really is even after almost 20 years. The lyrics aren't bad but they are missing a bit of that Gaga touch that past leads have had. Think of the Just Dance and Bad Romance bridges or the intro to Born This Way, even the opening lines of Perfect Illusion. The lyrics aren't quite as distinctively Gaga and do seem a bit like previous territory due to The Cure, and BTW album talking so much about sinners etc.

Some of us have been Perfect Illusion stans from day 1. The TRUE disappointment (devastation) was when we found out the rest of Joanne would be nothing like it. 4 1
