leightxn Posted October 25 Posted October 25 OH WOW!!! Was so apprehensive on first listen I think it didn't sink in how GOOD this is. After a few listens it is soooo good.
Club classic Posted October 25 Posted October 25 this is exactly what she needed to do unconventional, dark, layered, industrial and 100% Gaga 3 1

Adir Posted October 25 Posted October 25 Ok, it's growing on me. I'm still not a fan of her "rock" vocals, but the production itself is really good and the beat slaps
EnterTheAttic Posted October 25 Posted October 25 This is a masterpiece, isn't it? This screams old Gaga, I love it! So dark and catchy! I wish the whole album is dark pop with melodic guitar riffs and rock influences. **** that Stupid Love ****! 2

Kristie Kuwa Posted October 25 Posted October 25 I was really intrigued to hear the song when hearing its gonna give old Gaga, but I didnt expect her to sound so uninspired. It literally sounds like AI helped 1 7

ZENO Posted October 25 Posted October 25 (edited) Back when she first debuted in 2008 and all throughout 2013 I was a true fan of Lady Gaga, I vividly remember how pop culture revolved around her during those years and I'll forever cherish such memories as they bring me back to my early teenage years. The Fame and The Fame Monster, along with releases from J-Pop and K-Pop artists, genuinely formed my music taste growing up. This release, while maybe not as explosive as Bad Romance, is the closest to that sonic landscape we got from her post-ARTPOP. Personally, I'm glad she's going back to her roots and I'm excited to listen to the full album. Hoping for a full Bad Romance 2.0 as single 2 Edited October 25 by ZENO
FOCK Posted October 25 Posted October 25 (edited) Critiqued outside of the context of being an OGH, the context of her past material & her image change: A bombastic track, capturing the essence of a woman gone mad with passionate love. "I can cure your disease" is delivered in such a forceful prowess, it is not merely a torn lover's suggestion, but in fact, an adamant assertion, come hell of high-water, she WILL "fix" him, naysayers be damned. An incredibly layered production that sets itself apart from the current charts, and a song that dares to deliver the long-lost art of a bridge - a powerful "right in the feels, we're not done yet" bridge, and an enviable ear-worm of a chorus to match. This isn't a track you simply listen to - it's a track you feel. Critiqued with the context of being an OGH, the context of her past material & her image change: A reductive effort at capturing a long-lost magic that fails to elevate to meet the current sound-scape. Terribly shallow, on-the-nose lyricism, delivered by a star caught between worlds, unwilling to commit to the bit, or rather, the bit is no longer convincing. Choose your poison. Infernal Paradise Posted October 25 Posted October 25 "Disease", the pop star's first new solo release since 2020, lurches out of the dark to reveal the artist born Stefani Germanotta re-animated, stitches and bolts firmly in place. It's her best in a long while: a potent dose of dungeon-dark electro-pop. This the first glimpse of Gaga's forthcoming seventh album and, if it's anything to go by, the prognosis seems excellent. There are echoes of George Michael's "Freeek!" in the squelching synth line and the way she snarls and growls with delightful abandon. This is maximalist in the extreme and the latest sign that the pop-culture temperature is rising (think Brat, think Rivals). Restraint be damned; we want excess, and lots of it. With typical dramatic flare, she pares everything back on the final chorus to desolate piano notes and her diaphanous falsetto, before another growl and a final, rip-roaring salvo. "Disease" is like a defibrillator to the chest, jolting us out of our stupor. Welcome back, Mother Monster. — The Independent, 4/5 8

Bencharmer Posted October 25 Posted October 25 The meme with Bloody Mary/Wednesday definitely inspired her. I appreciate she explores more that industrial, rockish not vanilla synthpop sound.
blown away Posted October 25 Posted October 25 I like it, the production is very intriguing. It gives a bit of Nine Inch Nails meets Bloody Mary vibes. I'm not fully embracing the melody yet in some parts of the song, but it's a step up from Stupid Love. And the ending when she goes off is really great.

It could straight up be on BTW and no one would bat an eyelid. Even when you reference your own past hits, it needs to be updated and something new needs to be brought to the table. I guess this just shows the BTW sound was timeless tbh. I don't think it's too similar to BTW at all. It definitely feels like it might be closest to BTW out of all of her albums, but not like a carbon copy of the sound or anything. 1
POPTART Posted October 25 Posted October 25 She has delivered The rock vocals really lift the song up.

GraceRandolph Posted October 25 Posted October 25 People keep comparing this to the BTW album and it does sound a bit similar, but honestly it also reminds me a bit of a more fully realized Perfect Illusion. 1
Mr. Peanutbutter Posted October 25 Posted October 25 (edited) I absolutely loved it. This is the type of music I wanted from her since forever. The chorus eats Edited October 25 by Mr. Peanutbutter 3
