Dreams come true >>>> so ethereal. Savage has not and will never click for me, but the mini was excellent

Welcome to My World is one of the best K-pop gg songs of the 2020's and that's that Sailor Moon

Spicy and Super Nova are amazing

They were, commercially. But 2024 is destroying Aespa's 2021 in all of the best ways. Armageddon has already outperformed Savage, Up has outperformed DCT, Drama/Spicy destroyed Black Mamba, Supernova is outdoing Next Level and they still have Whiplash to go.

Aespa have had a magical 2024 :duca:

Their singles / title tracks are still great, but wtf happened to the quality of their b-sides?

I can explain! Their first studio album got split up because HYBE pulled some behind-the-scenes nonsense (it was coming in February 2023) as they were trying to take over SM, Aespa's company. Aespa ended up performing a lot of the songs from their album on their first tour and their label was in serious danger of being bought. HYBE had the intentions to put Aespa in hiatus and throw away their careers. So SM had one shot to really keep their company afloat which is why the strongest B-sides from their debut album ended up on the My World mini (Thirsty, Salty & Sweet, I'm Unhappy) while the weaker B-sides didn't get a release until Drama (YOLO, Hot Air Balloon, Blink) because the company was safe at that point.

A lot of their work got thrown off by the attempted HYBE merger, but we should see a lot of the songs that were made for Aespa (as opposed to shopped demos) in the Whiplash mini and their next releases because they didn't finish those writing camps until early this year.
