mons†er Posted October 17 Posted October 17 I believe she's making a mountain out of a mole hill. Its DEFINITELY not that deep, there are more important and pressing matters in the world that deserve this energy. It was done as a joke and in good fun, she's such a stick in the mud. Ugh. Bring back fun. 3
Saintlor Posted October 17 Posted October 17 Wicked marketing is huge. Don't count out her being told to fake this reaction to cause even more promo for the movie 1

Even if we disagree it's great to see your thoughtful list, along w the many posters However many posts you included are in different genres (scifi, thriller, drama) / different eras (none in this current decade) . Wicked is not like the examples above. It's a musical/ fantasy. It's aimed at young females, teenagers & family audience. Wicked's comps are: Barbie, Wonka, Greatest Showman, Mamma Mia. These movies' poster will always show the actors' faces trust. And sorry but you can compare the 2 posters (one with Cynthia opening her eyes, one with Cynthia closing her eyes) Which one will make people remember Cynthia's face and help increase her brand more ? Definitely the one to the right I feel like this is a bit of an unserious conversation to have about someone who is 3/4 of the way to an EGOT.

I forgot that ridic category of music performance on a daytime talk show, that they dissolved after a few years. Emmy winner Ben platt 2
Bubble Tea Posted October 17 Posted October 17 It's so interesting coming from the Liam Payne thread with enormous heartfelt essays on how we need to treat celebrities as people and not sorting them into "good person" or "bad person" boxes based, not on their life experience and story, but on the tiniest most minute moments where, actually, they are more than justified to have feelings and to be able to respond to something they are involved in. Y'all will never learn. 2

Acting like you know what significance it might have to her and her life experience demonstrates a lack of empathy and your own ulterior motive to get your kiis in regardless of at whose expense.

Peroxide Posted October 17 Posted October 17 Okay this is gaining quite a bit of traction… I really hope this doesn't negatively impact Wicked… they already had enough to work against with the Ariana/Ethan drama.

Troll Idle Posted October 18 Posted October 18 Seems like she had her rant ready and waited for the right moment to get off. I think it backfired a bit I fear
Jude Posted October 18 Posted October 18 Yeah, Cynthia over reacted and I got a secondhand embarrassment that I almost wanted to delay my Wicked movie watching. 1
Bacratto Posted October 18 Posted October 18 How dare y'all damage her fragile ego and edit her to match the original poster and concept. She's deeply hurt and offended. Can't wait for this movie to come out so their cringy marketing campaign ends. 3

Just found out about her actually reposting memes and fan edits of her face prior to this on her instagram. I retract my original statement, this is an egotistical hypocritical rant lol. 1
Mystic Warrior Posted October 21 Posted October 21 (edited) While this specific reaction may seem unwarranted, Cynthia Erivo has been the subject of a hate campaign ever since her casting was announced. Racism is alive and real, and I see so many people saying "well I've never seen it, so it can't be that bad", but it's a lot easier to avoid that vitriol when it's not aimed at you. I have no doubt she was seeing herself edited left and right with people commenting that it was way better than the original. That IS disrespectful, whether you want to believe it or not. This reaction was the culmination of an amalgamation of disdain and hate weighing down too hard on a woman who is only human and anyone who can't see what this really is lacks scope and the ability to think critically. Aside from that, the poster everyone thinks is "sooo much better" is horrendous. It makes her look like a botched prostitute who couldn't put on her cheap red lipstick properly due to withdrawal shakes. I'd be offended too. Edited October 21 by Mystic Warrior
