Cynthia Erivo reacts to Photoshopped posters of Wicked: "this is just deeply hurtful"

Oh she sounds annoying as hell. I hope the movie studio has a good plan in place for the promo tour bc behavior like this is what can sour the public on trying the film.

She's also about to receive 1000x more fame and attention than she ever has before; she should get media training (and counseling) for her own sake

Question for the people: Do you think this was intentionally shot, or photoshopped together as an afterthought (using individual photo of the two of them)?

I'm genuinely curious as to what the majority of people think.

Assembled definitely, it looks so disjointed. Look at how Ariana's body is lit differently.

There is nothing offensive about that AI image in fact it looks a lot more interesting than the original. :cm:

She deleted it. I wonder if she calmed down or if there was studio intervention.

Yeah, initially I thought all choices were intentional (showing their faces, no red lip, no white robe, no white hat, no smirk) but the longer I look Ariana's hand, the more confused I am.

Maybe it was photoshopped, with a bit of AI for the hand. They possibly shot all the promo stuff and then went, "shít…we forgot to get a photo replicating the playbill."

This is her on the poster, she has every right to say whatever is on her mind and if she's upset about it, who are we to judge. Also I never found that AI poster of Wicked never funny as well, so she's absolutely right.

I respect her feelings, but if this is the wildest and most offensive thing she's ever seen, I really do envy her peaceful life.

pretentious and annoying. of all times to say that this is the most offensive thing shes heard now during trumps nonsense being spewed daily makes her look ignorant and dumb

Is she Chappell Roan's roommate or something?

She deleted it the last time I checked.

The "let me cleanse your palette" said 19 hours old, but there was nothing in front of it. The "I am SO offended" one was uploaded immediately before it, so she must have calmed down…

I think her emotions were real/valid, but in the heat of the moment, she used hyperbole to express herself, and people took that seriously.

Hopefully it just gets more people talking/buying tickets though. I have a countdown on my phone to it.

Movies come out in Australia on Thursdays, so we get it on the 21st, but they're also doing advanced screenings on Wednesday the 20th. And because we're like a day ahead of most countries, that means I'll see it 3 days earlier than I was expecting

Idk anything about Wicked or musicals in general but I was familiar with the og poster and thought it was cool af but that green paint doesn't look good on an actual human at all. Couldn't they avoid doing that or is it an integral part of the story?

The Wicked promo almost seems too much to me and I was wondering if backlash would occur. This is a pretty minor blip though

The most offensive thing I've seen was her tweets regarding us African Americans. That's crazy that she's offended over fans wanting to see an adaptation of the original poster.

This level of self importance is so off-putting. She's literally just mad people hate their version of the picture so she's creating a fake deep narrative that's supposed to make this literal re-creation of a recreation more important than it actually is. Like girl be quiet.

It's extremely integral to the story of Elphaba's alienation. The actress playing Elphaba in the musical gets painted green every single night and that's live, not a movie. People would absolutely riot if the she wasn't green.

imo if she just waited to cool down before flying off the handle she could've explained that keeping her face in was a creative decision with purpose and that the movie is a new interpretation of the original musical. her feelings are valid, but is this really 'the most offensive' thing on the internet? like, be serious cynthia erivo from a big budget hollywood film... not to mention that people were clearly just trying to recreate the OG poster, i'm not sure i understand why she's taking it so personally.

this is a great lesson that you should not post when you're in your feelings. touch grass and make your point later.

edit: also a side note that does not really change much about this conversation, but the movie poster they released is so ass.
