If "the white hat and white robe" aren't in the film, then I don't see why a red lip should randomly be on the poster Because they were mad about the hand placement. I can't find it but there were TikTok's going viral saying Ariana ruined the poster because of how she placed her hand. This one where they changed actresses it was insane the backlash over a poster: Edited October 16 by Matchatea
ChooseyLover Posted October 16 Posted October 16 (edited) It's just people on the Internet doing what they are expected to... an statement about this will only bring more attention to the memes. I mean I don't find it funny either but yeah... Edited October 16 by ChooseyLover

And yeah, maybe the hand placement could have been better — but what does that have to do with the quote you replied to? I was comparing Galinda's white hat/robe to Elphie's red lip, because neither of those things are going to be in the film. As for her expression/eyes, I think it's more reflective of Elphaba's arc in Act 1. Maybe there will be a more "smirky" one for Act 2. The changes they made strike me as very conscious, thought-out, creative choices. I bet they even debated it for a quite a while. EDIT: I'm just seeing your edits now, and the hand is definitely noticeably different, but it's only really an issue if they're compared side-by-side. Despite giving us 13+ years of "only photograph me from my left, please" — it's possible that covering more of her face would've made her noticeably less identifiable. I agree with whoever said both sides are overreacting — both Cynthia and disappointed fans, but I think Cynthia's feelings are more valid if she was actively involved in choosing to make those changes. gatito Posted October 16 Posted October 16 she's got a point and people with a canva account need to stop being so brave like there's a reason a broadway and a movie poster can't be exactly the same
LegaMyth Posted October 16 Posted October 16 It looks like the Broadway musical. So, I don't think it was intentional. I hope not.
SpaceOddity Posted October 16 Posted October 16 She made valid points calling out AI usage, the weird AI gifs and the weird sexual question towards her. What might seem like an overreaction to the rest of us could very well stem from the fact that she probably gets hundreds of comments on the daily saying she didn't deserve the part cause she's black. Perhaps she read her face/identity being erased as a racially-biased discriminatory action. Is she still a privileged rich person upset by something that has no impact on the movie? Sure. It's not replacing the official poster and the fan edit only spreads excitement and at the end of the day, perfectly works as a promo tactic due to the discourse its caused But who's anyone to tell anyone, especially a black woman with a fresh spotlight on her, how to read anything amidst all the chaos new fame brings? 2
javieraloud Posted October 16 Posted October 16 She's being ridiculous at this point, girl is not that serious. 1
TaylorNation Posted October 16 Posted October 16 the funniest thing about this (and the debate in this thread) is that it isn't even a one-sheet poster or main visual. it's literally a throwaway social media visual to promote the tickets going on sale her likeness or stardom will not, in any way shape or form, be impacted by a social media visual let's be serious here the fact that iconic Broadway poster should have been used as a main poster + that they fumbled it so much is another discussion
StayFrosty Posted October 16 Posted October 16 The Chappel Roan of movies. Girl shut up and spend your check. 3

Maybe the hand placement could have been better, but maybe it was a choice to reveal more of her face, so people could tell that it's her. My main point was that they were meticulous about Elphaba being super accurate — right down to editing her flyaways — but didn't even care that Ariana was in a completely different outfit. The longer I look at it though, the more I wonder if they forgot to shoot it and just photoshopped it together using a bunch of negatives from a shoot, and then just threw a random shot of Ariana's hand on-top. Either way, I hope this doesn't get too much publicity and affect Cynthia's image in the eyes of the GP. The last thing I want is a Chappell Roan sort of PR crisis in the last 5 weeks until it comes out Although who knows, maybe the headlines will drum up even more interest and water-cooler talk. Chappell's crowds have only gotten bigger, after all. 1
anastaciabby Posted October 16 Posted October 16 (edited) it's hilarious how the hive and arianators are always pushing the poor them narrative over the most random things but this woman is doing too much according to them please Edited October 16 by anastaciabby 1
Dante Posted October 16 Posted October 16 chappel roan of movie industry not her mentioning the green ***** meme
Thesedays Posted October 16 Posted October 16 This woman has literally sang in pro-genocide politicians fundraisers but seeing a meme with her face in it is the most offensive **** she has seen lolll. **** her.
Jacobdaniel Posted October 16 Posted October 16 that one friend that is too woke communicates with her eyes 1
k4rmabutterfly Posted October 16 Posted October 16 Probably a PR stunt I don't think Cynthia is THAT out of touch, there's literally nothing offensive about the fan edit
MCMXCV Posted October 16 Posted October 16 "Most offensive thing I've ever seen" I can understand why she would be uncomfortable with the "is your p**** green" jokes, but claiming that adding a little bit of shadow and red lipstick to the poster is THE most offensive thing she's ever seen? Get a grip.

A harmless edit isn't the "most offensive thing ever". She's reaching.
Dante Silva Posted October 16 Posted October 16 She's got a point. Why would people do that to her? I feel so sorry for her. Was it the film studio or Ari fans?
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted October 16 Posted October 16 Idk. People have a right to not like the poster. Whether she agrees with their opinions or not is on her but movie posters are open for mass consumption and critique.
AvadaKedavra Posted October 16 Posted October 16 (edited) So annoying. I dont think im watching the movie then. Love ari so much and this type of movies but this lady is stressing me out Not giving my coinz to her Edited October 16 by AvadaKedavra 2
