Charli xcx f/ Kesha - "Spring breakers"

Well this is... kinda boring. They could've at the very least updated the production a bit or maybe added a bit of a rap back-and-forth between them. As it is, this version doesn't give me anything that I couldn't already get from the original. Might as well have kept it in the drafts.

Edit: Ouuu the Little Ke@$h£rs are mad, huh?

Well in addition to the story, she struggles to stay on beat and the lyrics are just nonsensical trash in general. But yall can stay posted in here defending a turd when joyride is right over there staying pop perfection.

Wait THIS is what the flow is reminding me of :dies: 1:10...

the first version doesn't have amazing lyricism so i don't know what yall were expecting? another praying on a club track? lol.

it actually does! she talks about how shes never recognized by the recording academy and tells a story of a hypothetical terrorist attack she wants to pull at the grammys

I prefer the original (one of charli's best songs) but this is fine. Kesha did what Kesha does :cm:

It actually has really thought out narrative lyricism, though maybe not at first listen. The chorus is her "Grammy speech" she goes on to give at the end of the song. The first verse is about is quite literally about her bombing the Grammy's lol. And then the second verse is her explaining how she would act if she actually won... leading back into her Grammy speech chorus (a full circle moment). It tells a story from start to finish. I mean... it's kind of incredible :dies:

Vroom-vroom, vroom, vroom, in a big pink truck
February tenth, and I'm gonna pull up
Hey, Staples Center, what the **** is up?
Yeah, I'm parked outside watching all the girls strut
Got their custom on, hit the worst dressed list
Yeah, you better not slide, not slip, not trip
'Cause I poured a load of gasoline on the carpet
Lit a cigarette, took a drag, then, I just flicked it
Place went boom, boom, boom, boom, clap
And I just laughed when the bodies went splat
Yeah, I knew I'd end up with my hands behind my back
In a police car, blue and red sirens
All flash, flash, flash, flash, lights, and cameras everywhere
Now, I'm on the news with the DUI stare
Who cares?
Just put me on the platform, turn the microphone on
There's no one I wanna thank out there, yeah

thank you im glad someone gets it

yes i agree with you, it honestly went completely over my head. but, i do like the narrative charli constructed in the original after further analysis, and i think kesha could've expanded upon that more in the remix.

Just heard the full remix and my god, this is a collapse!!!! Best thing by a long shot out that remix album. Kesha still got it. And that bridge>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Now why wasn't this featured on the physicals? spacer.png

That's what I mean. It just could have been executed more thoroughly, and this isn't on Kesha - it's clear she was given a time constraint and did the best with what she had to work with. I think what could have worked better was Kesha doing the chorus by herself (she's the queen of bratty talk singing) and added third verse just for her while keeping the other Charli verses.

yeah, the more i analyze the remix to the original, the more disappointed i am. and this is no slight to kesha because i know she had a time constraint and i am obviously a huge stan of her… i am just a sucker for lyricism and knowing the original context and narrative of the first version, i wish it expanded upon it more.

i am a newer charli stan and am just getting into her so i appreciate you letting me know about the context of the OG spring breakers. it is such a bop so when i was initially listening, i didn't analyze the lyrics as much as i should have.

but knowing the grammys context and how much kesha herself can relate (they both have 2 nominations, 0 wins, and consistently get snubbed / no invites because of "not playing it safe"), the remix could have been fleshed out more with a cohesive narrative.

I'm afraid it is not that deep.

Original > remix.
charlis 2nd verse is the best part and they took it to give kesha and it was bland

it's not about being deep, it's about honoring the meaning of the original song in a remix. i love good lyricism, so i am not going to lie and say i am fully satisfied. i love kesha, she's my #1 fav of alllll time, but i don't think everything she puts out is automatically gold just because her name is attached to it.

No problem  Charli's career is kind of confusing to follow because of the line she's toed between underground cult status (pioneering the PC Music/hyperpop sound alongside AG, SOPHIE, Easyfun and Danny L Harle since 2015) and her brief mainstream flashes of success outside of that. Feel free to message me with Charli questions/thoughts.

In the meantime, another song where she sings about her complicated relationship with the Grammy's... it is presumed that she had an affair that night and this song is her begging her bf for forgiveness:

Sorry I broke you down
Sorry I tore your heart
I ripped it all apart
Your headlights in the dark
Sorry 'bout Grammy night
Was flyin' out my mind

Hope you can forgive the things I've done

Me either, but I think the prompt is answered well enough and it's truly not that serious. Charli was just bullshitting in these lyrics and having fun, let's not make it more than what it is.

I'm not in love with it but also I don't get why you guys want Kesha to follow Charli's Grammy concept. The whole point of this remix album in particular is that every artist is asked to have their own interpretation. Kesha did some something silly and fun reminiscent of her old music.

It's better than the Guess remix for me where the remix was basically exactly the same.

Completely agree with you. I was honestly hearing Kesha sing the chorus the whole day while waiting because it would've fit so well imo! Also I love Charlis verses so much and miss them in the remix.

I agree!

It's not a bad song, just takes away from the narrative of the original.
