Da Vinci Posted October 12 Posted October 12 BOMT aged worse for me, it's definitely male gaze-y, the Lolita vibes are icky and the lyrics are kinda sad Wannabe is more fun, uplifting and remains an anthem for women everywhere I'd say Oops is more on that level, that's way more empowering than BOMT 1
TouchinFree Posted October 13 Posted October 13 (edited) Wannabe has always been annoying. Was kinda big but never bigger than BOMT. In 2024 BOMT still sounds fresh while the other one sounds weird with cingey lyrics. Edited October 13 by TouchinFree
The7thStranger Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Wannabe, Wannabe, BOMT. Although the Spice Girls have the stronger discography overall, BOMT is one of the greatest pop songs ever written and performed.
Alldeezy Posted October 13 Posted October 13 BOMT, wannabe is too cringe like I can't listen to it today, when I was listening to Spice Girls earlier this year I had to skip that song because I was embarrassed
A.R.L Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Wannabe was a lovely pop song that should've stayed in the 1990s. I never understood the hype, and their voices didn't even complement each other well in the song. It's very strange that this song is bigger than the entire group itself.
TipToe Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Wannabe was way bigger if my memory doesn't fail me. But I didn't like it that much, i preferred Say You'll Be There BOMTs sing and video are better imo.
UrMom Posted October 13 Posted October 13 "Wannabe" sweeps for me. It was EVERYTHING to me when I was a baby ghey.
momal Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Wannabe. Always hated that Baby song, it's overrated and sounds terrible.
naval23 Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Baby One More Time was a monster and made #3 year end in both Europe and #5 in USA Wannabe (Year-End): #10 (USA), #6 (Europe) Definitely BOMT was bigger
Pikacho Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Wannabe will forever be a classic. Who even remember BOMT outside her fans? 1
Trash Posted October 14 Posted October 14 Both are huge classics that I love dearly, pop staples. BOMT wins for me but I'll scream for both when the come on at a party or club
Mr.X Posted October 14 Posted October 14 Wannabe clears it I'm afraid. It's impact in pop culture is undeniable and it is both as mainstream and as punk as pop can get. No other song sounds like it since then. Others tried it, but there is an undeniable cultural impact that still lasts today and which actually opened the door for BOMT to smash through. Love BOMT though. Also had an incredible impact in the culture around the world. Yes the Spice Girls had better songs, but as a single, Wannabe is most definitely the most iconic between the two options here. It changed the industry forever more.
