Bencharmer Posted October 8 Posted October 8 (edited) Starting as a dance pop superstar, she managed to switch to adult contemporary along to her actress career. Right now she seems to effortlessly move from one world to the other, having people here for either Shallows or Rain On Me's (or both) Is that brilliant? It's basically what most of pop girls failed to do. Edited October 8 by Bencharmer 2 4 7
Josh Posted October 8 Posted October 8 (edited) no its called conforming. she wanted so badly to be a GP darling like Taylor, Beyonce, Rihanna and not the Janis Ian from Mean Girls of pop music. Edited October 8 by Josh 4 2 5 13
Popular Post Devin Posted October 8 Popular Post Posted October 8 constant reinvention is what makes her unique and keep ppl curious about her next move 16 years into her career. 16
Sheep Posted October 8 Posted October 8 nobody lasts decades in this industry without evolving. I think the way Gaga has aged herself will benefit in the long run because she can keep her current career going a LOT longer than her peers can without it looking forced. She won't be running into the ageism other pop girls have as harshly. 1 10

Gaga started off as a piano ballad singer /songwriter, she's been releasing jazz music since the BTW era (she's known her jazz buddies since The Fame era), and acting was something she studied in school. Whether you like it or not these qualities have always existed in her, nothing "conforming" about it. (Gaga and her Trumpet player Brian Newman in 08) 1
dumbsparce Posted October 8 Posted October 8 On paper it was great rebranding but she's boring af nowadays even down to the music. 5 1 3
Doctor Dick Posted October 8 Posted October 8 The only rebranding she did was Joanne. Not her fault she's that versatile.
ericcartman Posted October 8 Posted October 8 She's succeeded in dance pop, Ac, movies, jazz, drugs She's also flopped in dance pop, Ac, movies, jazz, drugs 1 2
Rihinvention Posted October 8 Posted October 8 (edited) I kind of wish her reinventions were more consistent with her eras. I find she tends to change hair/looks too frequently. Yes, there are many looks that you can immediately assign to Born This Way, Cheek to Cheek, or Joanne. But for the most part, I wish that she stuck with a style/hairstyle for longer. But then again, the frequency at which she changes things is also what makes her Gaga. Regarding the actress rebrand, it's ok. But I think her ambition exceeds her talent, and her stans think she's a better actress than she is. The greatest actresses of our generation truly have a gift, in the same way Gaga does for singing, and I don't think it's enough to step into that role just because she has a high profile and wants to do it. So long as dedicated actresses are working, I don't think she'll ever win an acting Oscar. I think there will always be a female acting performance (lead or supporting) that's better than hers, and she's better off focusing on music. Edited October 8 by Rihinvention 1
JJZAW Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Yes. She's a chameleon. She effortlessly went from pop to jazz/adult contemporary. She also effortlessly went from smashing to flopping. 3 2

I think it's cool that from a electronic dance pop singer, she changed her image to sing jazz and accomplished some achievements in this genre. A dying genre that imo only older people listen to. And then she was changing to make her image friendly to the gp by letting her raw talents shine, for example performing at the Oscars, showing off her vocals and such. Next, she starred in ASIB and people saw another side of her. It's like she's an enigma. You think you know all too well about her but no, she changes to something new. I love it. Taylor Swift in her documentary film also said that female artists must change their image all the time if they don't wanna be eliminated or forgotten. I love it. But Idk other female artists fail to do that because everyone has different strengths and weaknesses and I think they're doing fine.

Speaking of aging - It helps that she's always looked more mature and styled herself to look older than she is, even in the peak of her career in her early 20s. so aging in the industry didn't strike her as hard as lets say... Britney or Katy. 1

She barely moves a finger when it comes to that.
Robyn. Posted October 8 Posted October 8 (edited) How much of a rebranding do you think she would have done if Artpop was a smash album? Genuine question. She did conform to a more approachable and toned down image, because her aesthetic was boring the public. It felt like she did it more out of necessity, than anything but she was smart about it because there was no interest for "crazy" Gaga at some point. But she didn't manage to reach the same highs at all, she managed to remain somewhat consistent. Edited October 8 by Robyn. 1
