My boyfriend is driving back from our second home in Tennessee to be with me during the storm. I made him buy 5 cases of water and gas cans in Georgia.

I live in SODO really busy in this area. All the stores had nothing

I thought livin in Florida was like paradise but with these hurricanes looks very scary :emofish::gaycat6:
How celebrities protect all those mansions? Are those able to endure hurricane winds and floods?
Hope everyone here is safe :giraffe:

Most areas are prone to some kind of devastation or weather phenomena. This season has just been unusually active and directed at Florida, last time a season like this happened was 2004 when they got hit with 6 hurricanes in two months. Sadly because of climate change this will only continue to worsen and be more frequent.

I don't live in FL anymore but I'm always keeping an eye during hurricane season and this is making me nervous for Tampa, it's going to get wrecked. I have some friends and family that are in Tampa and have decided to stay. Hope yall riding out the storm stay safe and prepared

It should start a weakening trend tomorrow or late tonight due to wind shear..but the models have been detecting a slight break in the shear forming right near landfall. Total disaster scenario :emofish:

Will the wind strength be similar?

Hurricane Helene was a Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 140mph (225km/h) and was at its peak strength when it made landfall.

At its peak, Hurricane Milton is forecast to be even stronger with sustained winds around 165mph - a top rated Category 5 hurricane. However, it is expected to then weaken slightly, with sustained winds around 125mph (200km/h) at landfall.

Perhaps the wind damage will end up being similar from both hurricanes, with Milton's marginally less strong winds being offset by those winds affecting a more populous area of Florida. Either way, widespread damage and disruption is likely.

Ayo this seems really bad. Florida is not meant to be this populated ffs. I hope people get out in time.

Honestly the lack of compassion i'm seeing on apps like Tiktok is just so dissapointing. I'm aware the new generation seem to lack empathy but i have just seen someone comment on a creators video where this creator is saying why she cannot evacuate and the perfectly heartbreaking but logical reasons why she can't and people are scolding her and commenting "someone tag me if she makes it" ... disgustingly weird era of social media we're in

I'm watching the live coverage now from Australia.

I know there's still 17-18 hours to go, but the way they've catastrophized this…well, catastrophe…has meant the whole world is watching.

It's not just America. The whole world is talking about this.

Well that's an improvement...previously it was cat 5 -> cat 4  --> cat 5.

Now it is back to cat 4.

Woke up today in Orlando and there's just a mild rain no wind yet. Currently working from home

Really really hope power doesn't go out. We bought a generator just in case

But the areas are not all prone to equal devastation.  Most places are not getting hit with storms that people evacuate from.

Agreed. Many people don't understand what it's like to go through something like this, evacuating isn't as feasible or sensible as some may think. Sometimes staying is the better option. I think the lady you're talking about is the same one I saw, she's inland and further away than where it's supposed to landfall. She will be fine
