Bends Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) Lady Gaga is one of the most recognizable names and phenomena on planet Earth. She is one of the few singers in history whose solo releases have occupied the top 3 of the Billboard chart, regardless of the position of the lead single. Lady Gaga's solo releases: Peaks on Billboard 200: #2 — The Fame #5 — The Fame Monster #1 — Born This Way #1 — ARTPOP #1 — Joanne #1 — Chromatica #20 — Harlequin ❌ She had in her pocket the most anticipated movie of the year, with ticket presales exceeding all available norms. Despite this, sales of her new solo release amounted to 25k copies and her debut in 20th place is a departure from the high debuts of this famous artist. Why couldn't Lady Gaga repeat the success of her rival Susan Boyle, whose cover albums "I Dreamed a Dream" (711k) and "THE GIFT" (311k) debuted at the No. 1 in US and UK with massive sales. Rihinvention Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) Because Susan Boyle went insanely viral and we often discredit the buying power of over-40s when it comes to new music, because they typically just listen to music from their own youth (see: the mammoth sales figures of Adele's albums). Furthermore, it was a Christmas album with a few covers. It was a good Christmas present for mum to play on Christmas Day. The soundtrack to our Christmases has always been Kenny Rogers & Anne Murray's Christmas CD. It's been like that for decades. My siblings and I have bought her so many effing replacement CDs over the years. Gaga's album is tied to a movie that's a colossal flop. Like people are actually writing full on think-pieces about how much it sucks. It's really not that hard to figure out. Edited October 7 by Rihinvention 3
