Released 10 years ago today (going by the US release date), was Tinashe's debut album Aquarius.

This album had widespread acclaim from many music critics upon its release and was led by the hit lead single, 2 On, which peaked at #24 on the Hot 100 charts while the album was a top 20 charting album debuting and peaking at #17 on the Billboard 200.

2 other singles were released from the album, Pretend & All Hands On Deck, although they didn't do that great and failed to chart on the Hot 100. All Hands On Deck was a killer track though with sick music video and choreography!

This album is one of my most favourite debut albums from an artist that I could listen from the start to finish without skipping any tracks with its cohesive sound and moody vibes. It's sad that RCA never bothered to issue this album on vinyl for its 10th anniversary, so I made my own custom colored one for my personal record collection.

So this thread is to appreciate the 10th anniversary of Tinashe's debut album, list your favourite tracks or share any special memories you have of this album

Bet, Cold Sweat and Far Side Of The Moon >>>>

Also this album had real impact. As a Rihanna stan, I'll admit that 'Needed Me' was 100% Tinashe inspired. However the old cover also seemed like it took inspiration from the 'We Found Love' video lmao.

I'm glad she changed it. I like the new cover way more anyway.

a masterpiece if we erase pretend :clap3:

Shout out to the two Japan bonus tracks Watch Me Work & Vulnerable which I really liked too.

And never forget when someone uploaded the audio of Watch Me Work on youtube and labeled it as Rihanna's Work as a leak, which helped the track to almost chart on the Hot 100 :bibliahh:

I'm sooooooooo tempted to buy a signed copy which also has the album cover it was always supposed to have... But it doesn't include Watch Me Work, so I'm hesitant.

I know it's a flop (and low-key killed Tinashe's mainstream success) but Pretend is too cute, I still love that song :heart2:

pretend should've never happened and all hands on deck should've been the official 2nd single, the fact the label dropped it 7 months after pretend flopped to fend for itself….just disgraceful

Still her best album imo, and one of the best debuts ever.

She managed to go full-on R&B-pop star while keeping the experimental structures and soundscapes of the mixtapes, finding the perfect balance. You have some of her most commercial songs here (2 On, All Hands On Deck, Wildfire) next to some of her most weird and alternative (those first three songs :jonny:) and it works perfectly. Everything just makes sense- it doesn't feel like a collection of songs, it's a listening experience.

It's the kind of album that makes a superstar- a rock solid work, and a perfect introduction to the public. Even if it didn't end up being the success they were hoping for, it definitely wasn't Tinashe's fault. She gave her all here.

Paved the way :jonny:

honestly I think she could've been in SZA's place if she debuted around that time
